U.S. 69 North - Lufkin to Tyler


US 69 was recently reconstructed here and has a short concrete freeway section with high-mast lighting.

US 69 continues northwest out of Lufkin and returns to a rural-style highway.

The highway keeps four or five lanes through the small community of Clawson, northwest of Lufkin.

The next major population center is Rusk, located about 40 miles to the northwest of Lufkin. The interim sees more forested land and small rural communities.

Now in northwestern Angelina County, US 69 encounters FM 843. The FM road runs east back to US 59.

SH 7 has a grade-separated interchange with US 69 in northern Angelina County. SH 7 is one of the original numbered state highways in Texas, and connects Interstate 35 near Waco with the old city of Nacogdoches in East Texas.

US 69 northbound past SH 7. US 69 leaves Angelina County and enters Cherokee County in four miles. The county has about 46,000 residents and was founded in 1846 as one of Texas' older counties.

US 69 does not directly enter the town of Rusk, instead skirting it on the east and north side. US 84 runs north out of town.

This marks the eastern end of US 175. US 175 begins as a two lane rural highway, then switches to an expressway, and then to a freeway as it enters and ends in Dallas.
