U.S. 322

U.S. 322

U.S. 322 is one of three US routes leading west from Atlantic City to the Delaware River through South Jersey. The route starts alongside U.S. 40 at the intersection of Atlantic and Pacific Avenues in Atlantic City. Traveling 12.5 miles west through Pleasantville and Egg Harbor township, the two split at Hamilton township with U.S. 40 turning west to Mays Landing and U.S. 322 remaining more northeasterly to Folsom.

Most of U.S. 322 through South Jersey consists of a four-lane highway. The route provides a viable through route to Atlantic City from the Philadelphia area via Glassboro and Williamstown. Improvements to the route further west include the Mullica Hill bypass, a two-lane alignment circumventing the previous overlap between U.S. 322 and NJ 45 through Mullica Hill. The 1.5 mile route opened on January 11, 2012 after four years of ROW acquisition and construction at a cost of $16 million.1

U.S. 322 exits New Jersey across the Commodore John Barry Bridge to Chester, Pennsylvania. The cantilever bridge opened on February 1, 1974 to replace a ferry service between Bridgewater, NJ and Delaware County, PA. Tolls are levied in the westbound direction.
