Interstate 155 Missouri / Tennessee
Overview
Interstate 155 is a rural freeway connecting I-55 and U.S. 412 at Hayti, Missouri with the Future I-69 corridor and U.S. 51 at Dyersburg, Tennessee. U.S. 412 overlays the entire route, which represents one of three Mississippi River crossings for the state of Tennessee.
The east end of I-155 provides a seamless connection with the freeway leading U.S. 51 northeast to Troy. U.S. 51 extends north from Troy to Union City as an at-grade, four lane highway. Construction on the 45 mile long section of future Interstate 69 from Dyersburg to the Kentucky state line got underway in the 1990s around Union City. However work was halted in 2012 due to a lack of federal funding. The state resumed work on the first of five segments in 2016. Costing $46.3 million, the 2.87 mile section will link SR 5/22 and U.S. 51. It was previously anticipated to open in October 2019.1
With passage of the Tennessee IMPROVE Act in 2017, work on the remainder of the $205.9 million Obion County sections north to Fulton, Kentucky and south to Troy advances. Completion of the new freeway was expected by 2020.1,2 However a $31.9 million paving project for I-69 in Obion County did not kick off until July 13, 2021. Work is estimated to be finished in Summer 2023.6
I-69 will overlay the existing freeway along U.S. 51 southwest from Troy to I-155 at Dyersburg. Minimal upgrades are needed to upgrade the route to Interstate standards.1
