Interstate 275 Florida - South

Southbound Interstate 275 approaches Exit 42, Howard Avenue and Armenia Avenue; Exit 41C, Himes Avenue; and Exit 40B, U.S. 92. The Himes Avenue ramps were built specifically for the 1984 Super Bowl. Since construction ran late, the ramp was not finished until after the 1984 Super Bowl was finished. 12/27/00

Sign replacement of the interchange sequence sign posted 0.75 miles east of Howard Armenia Avenues. This stretch of Interstate 275 leading west from the Downtown interchange to U.S. 92 was slated for construction from Fall 2006 through 2010. Work however continued to Fall 2016.
The work rebuilt the freeway onto new four-lane carriageways separated by a wide grassy median. 01/01/06

Sign replacements with mile-based exit numbers posted ahead of the Himes Avenue off-ramp. Himes Avenue provides an alternate route north to Raymond James Stadium (home of the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and West Tampa. 05/29/06

Exit 41C also serves Legends Fields (since renamed to George Steinbrenner Field), the spring training facility for the New York Yankees. Both the stadiums reside along U.S. 92 (Dale Mabry Highway) east within 1.5 miles. 07/10/11

Like Exit 42, Exit 41C consisted of a slip ramp onto adjacent Green Street for the connection to Himes Avenue. Himes Avenue leads south to Oakdale Park and Florida 685 (Henderson Boulevard). 07/10/11

Interests to MacDill Air Force Base should follow U.S. 92 (Dale Mabry Highway west (south) directly to the military instillation. 07/10/11

A compact six-ramp partial-cloverleaf interchange facilitated the movements between Interstate 275 and U.S. 92 (Dale Mabry Highway) via Exits 41B/A. The loop ramps were eliminated due to the outward expansion of the I-275 mainline. 07/10/11

Exit 41A looped onto U.S. 92 (Dale Mabry Highway) south. Dale Mabry Highway represents the main north-south commercial arterial southward from Drew Park onto the Interbay Peninsula of Tampa, joining such communities as Sun Bay South, Palma Ceia and Beach Park. 07/10/11

The final three Tampa interchanges of Interstate 275 south join the freeway with the International Plaza and West Shore Plaza mall areas starting with Lois Avenue (Exit 40B). 07/10/11

A long bridge - check gas sign appeared along Interstate 275 south ahead of the Exit 40B off-ramp. Unlike the Pensacola Bay Bridge of U.S. 98, it is not unlawful to run out of gas along the seven-mile long Howard Frankland Bridge and causeway. Exit 40B meanwhile departs for Lois Avenue, a north south through street joining the freeway with Florida 616 (Boy Scout Boulevard) and Florida 60 (Kennedy Boulevard) nearby. 07/10/11

A half-diamond interchange joins Interstate 275 with West Shore Boulevard (CR 587A) at Exit 40A. The interchange used to include ramps to the west, but those were removed to improve traffic flow. 10/15/06

Exit 39 lies ahead of Howard Frankland Bridge with Florida 60 (Memorial Highway). Florida 60 constitutes a heavily congested freeway leading north to Florida 589 Toll (Veterans Expressway). 07/10/11

Approaching the off-ramp (Exit 40A) to Westshore Boulevard, which directly connected with Lemon Street in lieu of a return southbound ramp. 01/01/06

Exit 40A departed Interstate 275 south for Westshore Boulevard. This ramp was relocated onto an overpass above the new Lois Avenue on-ramp. 07/10/11

Interstate 275 south reduces to four overall lanes through the directional-cloverleaf interchange with Florida 60 (Memorial Highway). The choke point is a major problem in both directions during peak hours of travel. Florida 60 turns northwest from Kennedy Boulevard at Westshore Plaza Mall onto a brief section of freeway. The freeway is named Memorial Highway for the road which it replaced. 07/10/11
