I-95/495 Capital Beltway - Outer Loop

Immediately upon reaching the east end of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, I-95-495/Capital Beltway outer loop reaches Exits 2 A-B for I-295 north. The original configuration of this interchange changed dramatically once the Wilson Bridge construction was complete. 08/01/05

The massive reconstruction of the I-95-495/295 interchange was readily visible from this vantage point along the Capital Beltway Outer Loop. The new interchange allows for additional traffic flow on the transition ramps and future ramps for high occupancy vehicle connections. Pictured here is what is now the through lanes of I-95/495 north; the high flyover above carries Exit 3 to MD 210 south and Oxon Hill Road. 08/01/05

Passing under the ramps between Interstate 295 and Maryland 210 (Indian Head Highway) on I-95/495 north (what is now the through lanes). Maryland 210/Indian Head Highway travels south to Indian Head in Charles County and north to Forest Heights and the District of Columbia. 08/01/05

A look at the original Exit 3A ramp departure to Maryland 210 (Indian Head Highway) from what is now the through lanes. Maryland 210 is a major corridor, linking Indian Head in the south with Forest Heights and the District of Columbia boundary. Indian Head Highway turns into Capitol Street, which heads north over the Frederick Douglass Bridge into downtown Washington. 06/01/04

This Interstate 95-495 (Outer Loop) shield assembly was located immediately after the exit ramp to Maryland 210 south. Both Interstates 95 and 495 are well-signed along their combined route across the eastern half of the Capital Beltway. 06/01/04

A historical look at the Exit 3B loop ramp from northbound Interstate 95-495 to Northbound Maryland 210/Indian Head Highway to Forest Heights and Capitol Street. Access to Maryland 210 north is provided now from the local lanes via a ramp to Maryland 414 (Oxon Hill Road) west and its folded-diamond interchange with Indian Head Highway. The next exit along the outer loop is Exits 4A-B, Junction Maryland 414/St. Barnabas Road. 06/01/04
