Delaware State Route 273 Archive


The Delaware Turnpike sign design along SR 273 (Christiana Road) east at I-95 was carbon copied after 2004. This sign was again replaced in 2008 with the same layout. 12/19/07

Replaced guide signs at the ramp departure for I-95 north to Wilmington and south back to Newark. SR 273 passes over JFK Memorial Highway with three lanes. 03/27/04

This set of signs at the ramp split for Interstate 95 was also carbon copied. The Delaware Turnpike is only tolled on the section between SR 896 and MD 279. 03/27/04

The sign bridge for the Christiana Bypass along SR 273 used to display an overhead with "TO SR 7 North" for W Main Street. Development of the Christiana Town Center retail area severed the direct connection from the bypass to Main Street into Christiana. 05/01/05

A small guide sign directed motorists onto SR 1 south from the Christiana Bypass to U.S. 13 at Tybouts Corner and Dover. It was replaced with a lone shield for SR 1 by 2015. 06/16/12

A new access road was added beyond the junction shields for U.S. 13/40 for a Wawa build along Dupont Highway south of SR 273. 06/23/12

Span wire supported guide signs directed traffic to U.S. 13/40 (Dupont Highway) northbound toward Wilmington and southbound to State Road. These were taken down by 2014. 06/23/12

An SR 273 end shield was at the intersection with SR 9/141 in New Castle after 2012. The SR 273 concurrency with SR 9 east to Sixth Street remained long after the state route was realigned around New Castle. 06/10/12

Curbing and bike lanes accompanied signal replacements at SR 9, SR 141 and SR 273 by 2014. This shield assembly was replaced with new signs for SR 9 during the reconstruction. 06/10/12

The original end sign for SR 273 east at Chestnut and Sixth Streets, where SR 9 rejoins its prior alignment north from New Castle to Wilmington Road. 06/27/00

Construction of a multi use path along the north side of Frenchtown Road removed this SR 273 shield posted west of Bellanca Road. 04/10/04

The confirming marker west of U.S. 13/40 (Dupont Highway) at Hares Corner was removed by 2012. 03/20/04

Old Baltimore Pike leaves Christiana to cross paths with SR 273 at the Christiana Bypass. The state route junction shield was removed by 2008. 03/27/04

Leaving Christiana, SR 273 intersects Chapman Road ahead of the exchange with Interstate 95. This old guide sign was copied from a 1980s install for the Delaware Turnpike. 03/27/04

The northbound on-ramp to Interstate 95 leaves SR 273 (Christiana Road) west. Overheads on this sign bridge were carbon copied in 2006. The remaining concrete lanes were paved over with asphalt by 2013. 03/27/04

A loop ramp follows for I-95 south to Baltimore. Construction rehabilitated four of the bridges at the exchange with SR 273 between 2000 and 2004. This sign was carbon copied by 2007. 03/27/04

This sign was replaced during 2022 construction modifying the ramps from I-95 to SR 273 westbound. 12/26/20
