Until Fall 2013, SR 2 joined SR 4 west along Chestnut Hill Road and Christina Parkway to the Bob Carpenter Center and Elkton Road. This was the first set of shields for the overlap. 06/08/12

SR 896 joined SR 2/4 west for a 1.4 mile long overlap along Christina Parkway. Confirming markers for were posed just west of S College Avenue. 04/30/04

A second set of shields were posted for SR 2-4-896 beyond the east entrance to the former Newark Chrysler plant. The plant shut down in 2009 and was later demolished to make way for an expansion of the University of Delaware campus. 04/30/04

Christina Parkway widens to four lanes leading to Elkton Road. SR 2 Business previously ran along Elkton Road northeast to Downtown Newark alongside SR 896 north. 04/30/04

SR 2 westbound returned to its original alignment on Elkton Road for the final mile to the Maryland state line. This stretch was renumbered SR 279 in Fall 2013. 04/30/04
