There was no indication of the upcoming Newark toll plaza outside of a sign advising motorists of E-ZPass lanes. U.S. 301 references for Exit 1 A were removed by 2012. 12/19/07

U.S. 301 and SR 896 previously parted ways at Mt. Pleasant, 11 miles south of Interstate 95. 12/19/07

SR 896 shield posted at the end of the loop ramp at Exit 1 A. Weaving traffic concerns between the on-ramp and following loop ramp to I-95 north often resulted in traffic delays here. 04/24/04

Advancing to the original Delaware Turnpike toll plaza west of the Welsh Tract Road overpass. The plaza included 20 booths until it was reconstructed between 2011-12 with open road tolling (ORT). 03/28/04

Some of the booths of the original Newark toll plaza were dedicated to E-ZPass account holders. Despite that, travel delays were routine, especially during the holiday season. 03/28/04

Passing through the original Delaware Turnpike toll barrier north of Iron Hill. Toll rates displayed here were $2.00 per passenger vehicle. Those increased to $3.00 in fall 2005 and $4.00 on October 1, 2007. 03/28/04

The final southbound Interstate 95 reassurance shield in Delaware was posted just west of the toll plaza and 0.75 miles ahead of the Maryland state line. It was removed during the ORT project. 03/28/04
