Interstate 95 Delaware - South Archive


An original Interstate 495 shield along I-95 south at the Naamans Creek Road (PA 491) under crossing. I-495 splits with I-95 just south of the Delaware state line. 08/04/04

In 1987, Delaware posted commemorative signs at the state lines celebrating the 200 year anniversary of the First State's ratification of the Constitution. These signs, including this one preceding the Naamans Road overpass, remained in place for several years. 1985

The Governor Ruth Ann Minner administration (2001-09) replaced all Delaware Welcome signs with new signs featuring the slogan "It's Good Being First". The previous slogan touted "Home of Tax Free Shopping." 04/23/04

The first of several interchange sequence signs on I-95 south appears at the Harvey Road overpass. All guide signs for Exit 9 were replaced by 2007. 10/13/04

One mile north of Exit 9 with SR 3 (Marsh Road) on Interstate 95 south. The four lane freeway passes over Silverside Road within the vicinity of the sign. Silverside and Harvey Roads are secondary routes between Marsh Road and U.S. 13 Business (Philadelphia Pike). 10/13/04

SR 3 (Marsh Road) through the exchange with I-95 was rebuilt during a Spring 2019 to Fall 2020 highway safety improvement project (HSIP). 12/20/16

An original reassurance marker posted after the SR 3 on-ramp. The last state-named shield along the I-95 mainline was replaced by 1996. It was posted along the c/d roadway at Exit 5A. 1985

Next in line for motorists along Interstate 95 south is Exit 8 with U.S. 202 (Concord Pike) and SR 202 (Concord Avenue). All guide signs for Exit 8 were replaced by 2007. 04/23/04

This ground level guide sign for U.S. 202 was replaced by 2007. U.S. 202 is a busy six lane arterial northward from Exit 8 to the Pennsylvania state line. 04/23/04

The replacement sign for Exit 8 was later amended to read "1/2 Miles". U.S. 202 reaches West Chester in 15 miles. 06/15/12

1963 concrete remained in place through to 2004 on Interstate 95 southbound between the CSX Railroad underpass and the Brandywine Creek Bridge in Wilmington. Pictured here was a third sign for U.S. 202 (Concord Pike) north. It was replaced by 2007. 04/23/04

This sign was removed by 2016 and replaced with a supplemental panel for A.I. Dupont Wilmington Hospital. 09/27/14

The first guide sign for the loop ramp (Exit 8A) to SR 202 (Concord Avenue) southbound appeared at Exit 8A to U.S. 202 north. That ramp closed permanently by 2014. 04/23/04

Sign replacements made for Exits 8 B/A by 2007 erroneously replaced West Chester with Wilmington for U.S. 202 north. 05/17/07
