As requested, here is a map showing the proposed Foley Beach Express extension set to begin construction as soon as late this spring. The Wolf Bay Bridge and associated road location are approximate based upon news article descriptions.
The Foley Beach Express extension follows existing segments of Baldwin County 28 South and Baldwin County 83 northward to Baldwin County 64. Where Baldwin County 64 turns east toward Interstate 10 Exit 53, the proposed alignment turns northwest to meet Baldwin County 68 at its proposed interchange with Interstate 10.
The current idea of the Wolf Bay Bridge alignment is to construct a span from Alabama 161’s northern terminus at Alabama 180 (Canal Road) northward to the peninsula at Sapling Point. From Sapling Point northward, the road will curve and tie into the Baldwin County 20 and 95 intersection. Baldwin County 95 likely will carry the road northward to U.S. 98. Alignments north of U.S. 98 to Interstate 10 are unclear at this time.
I’m against this project, because this shit should be a full fledged freeway in my opinion.
I agree, it should be wide open from Foley Northward, IMO.
I believe that the hwy 83 is the wrong route to take. As you can see from the map, Hwy 87 comes closer to the interstate. Because of this, less of our money would be spent on building roads. Hwy 87 also connects to Hwy 98. At 98 travelers would have the option of turning left or right leading them to either the beach express or the wolf bay bridge. If 83 is developed, 10 years from now another road will need to be built to connect the wolf bay bridge to the interstate. Stop wasting our money!!!
I agree with the new bridge. I have lived in Baldwin County my entire life. And lived through many hurricanes, tropical strom, and every the else mother nature has thrown at us. We need more evacuation routes. And have for a very long time. This bridge could not be builded fast enough in my opinion.
Ridiculous waste of money to make two developers and a few politicians rich! Should be a public referendum required for an expenditure of this size, not just the current “King” deciding that’s what he wants. Annexation across the Intracoastal will again be challenged in court so OB may pay for a bridge that it has to maintain with no benefit for building it.
OB citizens, unite and resist this waste of taxpayer money!
I think the idea of this new bridge is great especially if it continues up and ties into Interstate 10. Even better would be to continue up and tie into hwy 29 and have it tie into inter state 65. Then people coming down or going back from Orange Beach could come out at the Perdio Exit on Int.65.
If the new bridge road ties into hwy 95/20 intersection and continues straight up 95 until it ends it could continue almost straight up to Int.10 through mainly(95%) forest, farm and swamp land. Who would annex who? Elberta could become the new super power!!!! Watch out, the next Super Wal-Mart will be at the Hwy. 95/hwy 20 intersection! No more driving 5 miles for a gallon of milk. LOL
