Quote from: NJRoadfan on July 06, 2025, 09:56:43 PMIts been a long time since I was on the Thruway in Rockland County. Who thought it was a good idea to install ramp meters on a freeway-freeway ramp?  :pan:

They do that in California too. And its purpose is the same as everywhere else: to meter the flow of traffic onto the highway. What location was this ?

US-460 west of Petersburg has them, in the low 300s and high 200s. Street View shows they have been there since at least 2021, but not before 2013.

It would be nice if they were more consistently posted (like throughout the whole state, at least where they are divided highways), but seeing some rather than none is nice.

It's dependent on what each district prefers I'm guessing. Hampton Roads, for example, only posts them on interstate highways. Even state route and US route freeways, such as US-58, VA-164, etc. lack them along with no exit numbers.

VA-168 and US-17 have mile markers posted from I-64 to the NC state line, and VA-168 has exit numbers, but those are both maintained and operated by the city of Chesapeake.

Quote from: TheOneKEA on July 06, 2025, 04:40:52 PMI will be interested to see if there are any calls for some of the busier at-grade intersections on the loooooooong stretch of US 11/15 south of Selinsgrove to be grade-separated once the CSVT is complete.
Building interchanges might be tricky space-wise (and environmental-wise) for many of the intersections, since 11/15 runs so close to the river most of the way.  If there ever is a call for more grade-separations, it might be more practical to relocate the highway to new r/w further inland, to the west.  That could also help reduce possible flooding issues.

Quote from: Thing 342 on July 06, 2025, 06:42:16 PMDrove US-58 through Mecklenburg County today and noticed that it now has posted mile makers every half mile, added sometime between 2023 and February 2025. Since VA doesn't usually post mileposts on US routes, does anyone know if this is just a one-off?

I have not seen any new mile markers on US routes in central and northern Virginia...

50 and 400 was a clever one. I didn't think of that!

Anyway, have US2 at US51 in Hurley, Wisconsin.

Quote from: dbz77 on July 06, 2025, 12:20:10 PMmmHg is clearly metric.

It uses a metric unit, but the official SI unit of pressure is the bar (which equals air pressure at sea level). Meteorology typically uses mbars for all air-pressure readings on the back end, and only translates them to inHg when communicating with the general public.

Quote from: ZLoth on July 02, 2025, 07:58:24 PMA project that I will be doing this weekend is upgrading the hardware of my TrueNAS server to a faster processor which means new motherboard, new memory (DDR5 ECC from DDR4 ECC), and a new CPU fan. I will also start posting on job sites.

Because of an error on my part, the new ATX motherboard does not fit the old Fractal Design Node 804 which uses a mATX motherboard. A new case with internal 3½" drive bays had to be ordered and should arrive Tuesday. A new power supply was also ordered, and since the price difference between the 750W and 850W power supply was $4 (now $10), I ordered a 850W power supply. This will allow me to run a memory test for several days prior to transferring the drives over from my old TrueNAS box.
