Frontage Roads in Virginia
« on: January 06, 2024, 10:48:08 AM »

So I found a rectangle in Henrico County recently for a frontage road (SR F106) accessed from Laburnum Ave just north of I-64.  (https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10219799321734002&set=a.10219799429736702)

There's a few of those, though a lot of them have been decommissioned.

Town of Christianburg also used to have one posted - https://maps.app.goo.gl/8UjeQG5YTGZbiwvn8

Petersburg has both shields and rectangles.

At the rate they’re going the shields will be replaced with 3-digit US shields by the end of the decade.

Looking forward to clinching US F330.

Spin-off from the main Virginia thread:

It's been quite a while since using Rives Road (it used to be a key shortcut of mine back before the completion of I-295).  But I wasn't aware of any frontage roads in Virginia that were numbered overlapping with Virginia state routes (in this case, both F330 and F331 are shown).  I probably wasn't paying close attention, but I don't recall any frontage roads that didn't have four digits (plus the F-tag).  I haven't been able to find a logbook that includes any frontage roads within Virginia, even though some of them are heavily-trafficked secondary routes.

Any other examples of three-digit frontage roads in Virginia?

I may as well merge in the previous discussion if we are going to start a new topic.  -Mark

Most F routes are 3 digits. I haven’t updated this page in a while but this gives an explanation of the system:  http://www.vahighways.com/route-log/fseries.htm

There are several four-digit frontage roads. According to VDOT's ArcGIS map, the highest numbered one is F1232.

Thanks for the information.  I was way off.

This whole subtopic should go under the Mandela Effect thread.  I was sure that the two frontage roads at Exit 77 on I-81/I-77 in Wythe County were four-digits.  Nope, they are actually two digits with an appended zero (F-042 and F-043).  I stop at this exit on most trips to West Virginia, including once in the last month.  Even then, I had the numbers wrong in my head (F-1041 and F-1042).   :banghead:
