I'd like to announce that I will host my 2025 "city meet" in Mobile, Alabama!  The tentative date that I'm looking at is Saturday, May 3.

The format for this meet will be the same that I used for my previous "city meets"... a choose-your-own-sightseeing event.  I will select the restaurants where we will convene for lunch and dinner, and folks can explore certain aspects of Mobile individually or in small groups between lunch and dinner.  Some attendees may choose to focus on the highway infrastructure in the area, some may choose to explore the city's downtown area, some may want to check out retail/breweries, some may focus on highway or counting clinching, and of course some may choose some combination of those and any other features of the city that they are interested in.

Mobile is a city that I've been wanting to explore for a long time.  I've actually never been to Alabama's Gulf Coast before, so this is definitely new territory for me.  As with all of my "city meets", I'm exploring the city for the first time and am inviting anyone who is interested to explore it with me.

Over the next few months or so, I will confirm that May 3 will be the date... but right now, I'm giving myself a very good chance that it will take place on this date.  Certain enough to announce the date now.  I look forward to planning my next meet and look forward to seeing some of you in Mobile next May!

I am happy to announce that the May 3 date for my Mobile meet is now confirmed.  I will soon make my travel/lodging arrangements.  And over the next couple months or so, I will choose the lunch and dinner restaurants.  Once I've made those decisions, I will create a Facebook event.

More details to come, but for now, I just wanted to let everyone know that the date is official.

...and there's now a promotion exam tentatively scheduled for the 3rd.  If that tentative schedule doesn't change when the exam is formally announced in mid-February, I'm out, which stinks. Had a week vacation planned out, albeit reservations had not been made.

I just created a private event on Facebook and invited my friends whom I think may be interested in attending.  Anyone is welcome to attend, even if you didn't receive an invitation on Facebook.  Just let me know here if you plan to attend.

Here are the details for the event:

  • At 11:00 a.m. CDT, we will gather for lunch at one of the Foosackly's locations in Mobile (the one located at 3020 Dauphin St., Mobile, AL 36606).  Foosackly's is a regional fast-food/fast-casual chicken chain.
  • Because my "city meet" format is a choose-your-own-sightseeing format, everyone is encouraged to go off on their own and explore the Mobile area individually or in groups throughout the afternoon... whatever you'd prefer to do.  For anyone who is interested in carpooling with others, there is ample parking near Foosackly's.
  • At 7:00 p.m. CDT, we will gather for dinner at Sonny's BBQ, which is located at 770 Schillinger Road South, Mobile, AL 36695.  Sonny's is a sit-down restaurant, and they will have no issues splitting the check for our group.

Of course, if you are only able to attend lunch or dinner but not both, that is totally fine.  Just let me know your plans when you are able.  At this point, I am guessing that the size of our group will be as small as 5 and as large as 15.  (I have no idea how many attendees to expect, but I'm guessing the group won't be quite as large as the groups I had in Omaha in '23 and Charlotte in '24.)

I am looking forward to seeing everyone in Mobile for my fifth "city meet"!
