Freeways that meet without an interchange

TX-8 around Houston has quite a few volleyballs (Hardy Toll Rd, Crosby Frwy (US-90), South Frwy (TX-288), Fort Bend Pkwy, Tomball Pkwy (TX-249))

You're correct.  The term "modified volleyball" or "enhanced volleyball" would be more accurate for the Kilpatrick/OK 74 interchange.

The I-476/US 1 interchange in Springfield, PA is also a volleyball.

I guess this wouldn't count, since it involves a toll road, but I-90 (Mass Turnpike) has no interchange with I-391 where they cross.

There are certainly two different ideas covered in this thread - places where there is an interchange, just not a freeway-to-freeway itnerchange (this is most common on toll roads), and places where two freeways cross without any reasonably direct access. 90/391 would fall into the latter, as would 95/276.

To me it looked like a volleyball that used frontage roads for its ramps, similar to the way diamond interchanges often work with one-way frontage roads.  Another example of such a volleyball, if we are to call it that, is the US 54/400/Kellogg interchange leading to Wichita Mid-Continent Airport, which also has a flyover (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Wichita,+KS&hl=en&ll=37.672153,-97.428131&spn=0.009511,0.021136&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=38.911557,86.572266&t=k&z=16), although this example isn't relevant to the thread.  I'm not sure how else one would categorize such an interchange, but I thought "volleyball" came closest.
