Randy was pretty damn bad on MTR, but if he's here and we can't obviously stand up and say "Oh yeah this guy's Randy" then he's obviously realized he needs to tone his act down, rendering him harmless. If he does show up and start being a tool then he'll be banned for being a tool.

(PS I don't think it's really a good idea to lump gays, transsexuals, Martians, Buddhists, and Muslims in with racists and sandwich artists. Nothing wrong with being gay/trans/Buddhist/whatever, obviously not the case with racists.)

Apparently he posted on m.t.r that he is a member of this forum. I have him, in all his various nyms, plonked, but I heard second-hand that he mentioned that he is a member of this forum.

I'm sure this board is full of racists, gays, transsexuals, Martians, Buddhists, Muslims and sandwich artists. Does it really bother you that much?

It certainly would not surprise me not only that Randy was a member of AARoads, but also that management knew precisely which account corresponded to him.  From their perspective (as I remember from my own experience managing a Web forum) it is often more prudent to keep an eye on an account known to be owned by a troublemaker than to ban it immediately and then have to deal with the same troublemaker coming back under a different and unknown sock-puppet account.  To an extent you can prevent re-registration under a different account by banning the troublemaker's IP, but this does not work when there are many other legitimate members at the same IP (as used to happen with AOL subscribers, for example).

This Web forum is a completely different environment from MTR, so it is completely reasonable to expect Randy not to act on here the same way he does on MTR.  Moderation (reasonably and responsibly applied) is a powerful deterrent to many kinds of antisocial behavior.

As far as I know none of us have any such idea. I couldn't trace him to any particular account. If Carl Rogers were to join the board, we'd take the same approach: Keep up your usual shenanigans and you'll be banned forthwith. Be a productive member of the community and you can stay around. Doesn't matter what your past life is unless you're known for doing something illegal (we had a case of that a couple years ago where I caught a suspicious-looking name).
