This is on SB Lewis at 51st Street.  The sign was posted in the last few days.  It is a replacement sign for a sign that was knocked over by a car.

One sign at a time, take back this route!

With ODOT the way it is, it's a wonder this doesn't happen more often in Oklahoma.

Quote44's a BMW;  66's a Yamaha,
44's just like mother; 66 owns Omaha.
44 & 66; 66 & 44,
What a piston; what a bore,
66 & 44.

66's a long old jet plane, goin' to a folk festival,
44's a hot jazz player, yeah; and his belly's never full.
44 & 66; 66 & 44,
You got to push what you can't pull,
66 & 44.

66 is modern poetry; 44 is modern art,
66 ain't got no mystery; 44 ain't got no heart.
44 & 66; 66 & 44,
Flick your Bic at the right door,
66 & 44.

66's a brand new baby bouncin' on his grandma's knee,
44's a long old coffin, open arms for you and me.
44 & 66; 66 & 44,
Say goodbye and close the door,
66 & 44.

66 is Waylon Jennings, and he can't find his cologne,
44 is Nelson Eddy, and he's crying on the telephone.
44 & 66; 66 & 44,
Outlaws don't dig to be poor, no,
66 & 44.

66 is just a number; 44 is just a gig,
66, apprentice plumber; 44 still wants to make it big.
44 & 66; 66 & 44,
Add 'em up, you get some more,
66 & 44.

If you recognize this song, you get 100 billion points!  :)

Did not recognize it, but I like the lyrics!

I cheated.  Looked it up on Wikipedia, however, I won't divulge the artist to others.  Nice 32 year old song!

Was it supposed to be about the 44 and 66 shown in the picture, or was that just a coincidence?

I doubt it's about the two highways in Oklahoma.  The artist grew up in rural Iowa; though he did go out west for work, then travelled as a band, he now lives back in Iowa.

Must be pretty much a coincidence, especially if he did not (intend to) refer to the highways in that area.

Then I'm baffled. I have no idea what that song's about.

The sign is now gone.  It was removed because Lewis Avenue is closed at I-44 and the bridge is going to be replaced.  It lasted all of 2 weeks.  This must be one of the shortest-lived US 66 signs ever posted.

The whole assembly, pole and all, is gone.  Several other I-44/OK 66 assemblies on the closed portion of Lewis were removed as well.

Circa September 20, 2012 - circa October 1, 2012.  I guess some things are too cool to last.

And no, I didn't steal it.  I wish I had.  Both the 44 and 66 signs were taken down soon after the Lewis Avenue bridge was closed on October 1.

Why did they post it in September if it had to be pulled in October?

This guy's been all over.  It could very well be about OK highways.

They could have used a temporary assembly...

A sign assembly was knocked over by a car so the new assembly was posted.  It was 2 weeks before they closed the bridge, but they had to have some sign up and that's the one they had.

What would they have used for the temporary assembly that would be different from a permanent install?
