End/Begin Interstate Signage

In Alabama, where I-759 ends and AL 759 begins, a sign only says "END I-759", and "EAST AL 759."

Would the best signage actually show "BEGIN EAST AL 759"?

And with that in mind, which states actually say "End XXX, Begin (dir) YYY" versus "End XXX, (dir) YYY"?

The x64s at the Bowers Hill interchange all end this way.

Note that I-64 is bannerless there.

The 3dis there both have directional banners, though.

END I-635 signage at I-20 in South Dallas:

There previously were ground-mounted assemblies that said: END 635 [XX DISTANCE]. The end plaques were yellow.

We don't even have END XX signage here... no clue why.

Haven't been that way in awhile, but there used to be an "END I-264" shield in Virginia Beach.  I can confirm however that there is no corresponding "BEGIN I-264" shield going westbound (headed westbound, but not eastbound, on Thursday)....just a reassurance shield about 1/3 mile down the freeway.

I-464 also has END signage, but no BEGIN signage.

I think the OP meant the occurrence of having an END banner for one route and a BEGIN banner for the route that continues along the same road.

I see.  Bower's Hill (mentioned by Takumi) would be the only example down here then.

Near South Boston would be VA 344/VA 360 (at US 360), but as I recall there isn't BEGIN/END signage there...just trailblazers.

One example not mentioned yet, but I don't have photos easily accessible, is I-494/I-694 in Woodbury, MN.

Don't recall offhand what happens at I-370/MD 200.

I'm pretty sure I've also seen at least one example of "END xxx, BEGIN yyy", where yyy was actually a continuation of another route, but I can't for the life of me remember where I've seen that.

Takumi

I-195's signage in Richmond was updated to have Begin/End banners, but offhand I can't remember if the transition to/from VA 76 is marked with both routes in the same place. I know the transition from VA 146 to VA 195 has a Begin banner for 195, but no corresponding End banner for 146 (of course, it doesn't help that it's not in the right place). Finally, VA 76's south end was fully marked like this (without the directional banners for the ending route like at Bowers Hill) in both directions, but as of last month the southbound/westbound assembly had been removed due to the multilaning project there.

New Jersey does this a lot.  No photos to offer, but some examples include I-95 and I-295 at U.S. 1 in Mercer County and I-195 and NJ 29 at I-295 in Mercer County.

MA has done a good job lately of putting begin/end signs on its interstates.  Seen them where I-84 meets the Mass Pike, and at either end of I-291 and I-391.
Interstates I've clinched: 97, 290 (MA), 291 (CT), 291 (MA), 293, 295 (DE-NJ-PA), 295 (RI-MA), 384, 391, 395 (CT-MA), 395 (MD), 495 (DE), 610 (LA), 684, 691, 695 (MD), 695 (NY), 795 (MD)

I-290 west beginning unmarked:

I-355 south end:

I-294 south end, note the routes that begin:

That strikes me that it's odd to say that 80 and 94 "begin" here. Both roads begin thousands of miles away from Illinois. Just because I'm now turning onto a continuous road, that road can't be said to begin here.

There you go! That's the right language, rather than the "begin 80 & 94" sign in Chicagoland.

There are no END signs for VA 146, but there are END VA 76/BEGIN I-195 signs on northbound VA 76 past the Cary Street exit.

What's even better is that you're on I-80 at this point, and have been for the past 5 miles.

MO likes using this language. It posted something similar for "I-49 ends, continue on US 71" in Kansas City.

The beginning of I-635 at I-20 near Dallas. There's a similar "ENDS" sign in the southbound direction.

Odder still is the sign along the southbound side of I-294, just beyond the split with I-94 at Lake-Cook Road.  It says "I-294 Begins, I-94 Ends", which is clearly absurd because it does no such thing and happily runs for another 400 miles to Port Huron, MI.   https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Underwood+Avenue,+Wauwatosa,+WI&hl=en&ll=42.152627,-87.874521&spn=0.006451,0.009645&sll=43.049572,-88.059089&sspn=0.012717,0.01929&oq=UnderWauwatosa,+WI&t=h&hnear=Underwood+Ave,+Wauwatosa,+Wisconsin+53213&z=17&layer=c&cbll=42.152543,-87.87453&panoid=Pkuq9TrzIXB0kxTlimcwow&cbp=12,174.79,,0,7.91

I-94 splits off to the east and follows the Edens Spur and you know that because of that huge junction with all of those signs that you just passed.

I like this alternate sign, since the one posted there is only for the folks who took the wrong ramp.
