I wonder what's more expensive.  heavier material to order and transport ... or a more complex assembly that requires more labor to put together?

Florida decided one way; Arizona the other.

Depends on the metals/fuel market, no?  50% more metal, 50% more weight to ship.

Also depends on performance, failure threshold, etc. 

My money is still on labor being the biggest expense.  Simpler signs go up faster, and union construction guys are not cheap.

Incidentally, the crown jewel of my collection is a NY 17 of similar vintage.  Mine lacks holes for cat's-eyes though.

The City of Seattle (and SDOT) are replacing the city's street signs and at their warehouse in SODO. There's [url=http://www.seattle.gov/Documents/Departments/FAS/Warehousing/FASWarehouseStreetSignsForSale.pdf]1,100 signs from 209 streets, with tons leftover from the Mercer Street reconstruction project.
