Highway families where you've been on the 3-digit route but not the 2-digit one?

Same here with US 202.  I have been on US 6 and I-78, so I can't claim those.

HazMatt

US 220 and US 441.  220 seems trivial though since it doesn't even connect with 20.

Molandfreak

U.S. 138, kinda. I haven't been on U.S. 6 where it replaced U.S. 38, but I have been on U.S. 6 in both Iowa and Ohio.

No interstates for me, and only US 441 from I-40 to the Blue Ridge Pkwy in the US route category.

slorydn1

I can't think of any Interstates that fit this for me. If I have been on the 3di child, I have been on its parent 2di.

US route wise I would have to say US-131 for many years before I even saw a US-31 sign (as a kid, of course) but now even that doesn't apply anymore.

US 183 from Austin to Lampasas (and US 290 along I-35 in Austin) but not US 83 or US 90.  (Also, US 281 and US 190 in Lampasas)
I-676 in Philadelphia, but not I-76
US 189 on its segment along I-80 between Utah and Wyoming, but not US 89 itself

I am on I-280 in Toledo every day, but have only been on I-80 just a handful of times in my life.  Also, since US-27 was decommissioned in Michigan, I've been on US-127 many times, but not US-27 since.

doorknob60

Not as a driver (on a bus), but I-678 and I-495 in NY. Never been on I-78 or I-95. That might be my only examples. Can't think of any others. Unless you wanna throw in I-238 and US-101 :D

EDIT: US-191. I've been very close to US-91 but not actually on it. I guess I've also been on US-287, through Yellowstone, never on 87.

froggie

I checked, but my answer for this thread is basically "none".  I've been on the parent for every 3-digit route I've been on.

Mapmikey

I thought my answer was also none for US and I routes but I just checked and I have driven all of I-345 and none of I-45.

OCGuy81

I've been on US 287 in the DFW area, but never on US 87.

Been on US 281 in San Antonio, but never on US 81.

I've been on US 169 in the Twin Cities, but never on US 69.

Here's what I can think of off the top of my head:

Interstates:

- I-390 in NY (this was only true for about an hour or two)
- I-180 in PA

US Routes:

- US 202
- US 192
- US 222 / 322 / 422 (true until last spring)
- US 220

US 202 but not 2
US 206 but not 6
I-287 but not 87

US 202 and US 206 - I've never touched US 2 or 6. I-287 - I've never used I-87 either.

We're too similar.  :D

Oh yeah!  LOL

Me too, except I've been on 6 (as a passenger) and only recently on 87 for the first time as a driver (Used 287 many times before that).

No interstates, 238 notwithstanding (does it count if CA 238's the parent?).

US 169
US 666 (does CA 66 invalidate this?)
US 491 (does CA 91 invalidate this?)
US 199 (does CA/OR/WA 99 invalidate this?)
US 101 :bigass:

I think the spirit of the question is that driving the state route remnant of a parent US route counts as driving on the parent route.

Definitely no interstates for me.  For US routes, I can only think of 441 in TN and FL, 302 in NH and ME, and 202 in NJ.

US-163

/thread
One could have said that I've been on US-163 and not it's "Parent", but then they look at where I'm at.... quite close to US-63 - and been on it.

For a time I had I-278 and I-478 (Battery tunnel for those who missed it) w/o I-78 myself.  The former in 2010, that changed last year.  Outside of that I have none that I can think of anywhere in the US - I or US.

I've thought about this topic for years because growing up in Williamsport, US 220 was a part of daily life, but US 20 was entirely foreign to me. It wasn't until a trip to Idaho last year when I first actually drove on it. (Edit: I may have stumbled onto a few blocks of US 20 in Boston a few years earlier, but still...)

I'm pretty confident that I've never been on US 2, although I made heavy use of US 202, particularly while at WCU. I have to think that US 202 is on many people's lists.

US 209 was for many years–I don't think so anymore.

As to Interstates, I think the only 2DIs I haven't been on are some of the shorter routes far from cities I'm likely to visit (I-19, I-27), most of which don't have 3DIs.

I have to think that US 202 is on many people's lists.

Yeah, for three simple reasons:

1. Concurrency with I-95 in Wilmington
2. Concurrency with US 6 on the Bear Mountain Bridge and its eastern approach
3. Concurrency with I-84, US 6, and US 7 in Danbury

If you've done any amount of traveling in the northeast, you've probably encountered or used US 202 several times, while US 2 is in the middle of nowhere up by the Canadian border. One of the few cases where a child is more prominent than its parent.

I have driven US 202 plenty of times living in New Jersey.  In fact I worked my very first job ever at A T & T in Bedminster back in 1984 which is along the US 202 & 206 concurrency.   I have only been on US 2 as a child, but never actually drove it.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

Looks like I've been on the 2di/2dus parent for every 3di/3dus I've traveled.  With the restriction that the parent must exist (US 138, I-238).

I could almost count a couple interstates here. I-640 could be included but my travels on I-75 had I-40 concurrent with I-75. I-285 could have been included but I traveled with I-75 and I-85 on the downtown connector. Damn concurencies.
Only two things are infinite in this world, stupidity, and I-75 construction
