Was this arrow ever in the MUTCD?

Decades ago, when US 90 was relocated from its long-standing two-lane alignment northward to its current divided four-lane alignment through Jackson County, Miss., SH 57 was slightly truncated so state maintenance would end at the 4-lane US 90 rather than the 2-lane old road.

This assembly, which has been around since 1985, is photographed looking northward from the truncated part of SH 57. The assembly is ancient and it's the only place I've ever seen the arrow accompanying the US 90 shield. Were they once a standard tool to alert drivers that they're entering a divided highway, or is this a one-off MDOT job?

I'm guessing it's a one-off. I have several MUTCD's and don't recall ever seeing that arrow.

Interesting way of describing the route choices at a divided-highway intersection.  At first glance, it almost looks like a route that has a quick zig-zag in it, but would probably be more aptly interpreted like the current divided-highway sign seen with stop signs at intersections like the one in the pic.

Kentucky uses the R6-3 and R-63a marker. I've never seen this arrow but I like it.

Turns out, that US 90/Mississippi 57 arrow isn't exactly a one-off. I just ran across another application using the arrow at Mississippi 4 and Mississippi 15 in Ripley, Mississippi:

Unlike the example in South Mississippi, this example does indicate a one-block jog in the route of Mississippi 4

A similar type of arrow (with a slight jog) also existed at the VA 178/VA 180 junction on Virginia's Eastern Shore.  Not sure if it's still there.

I know I've seen one of these in Missouri somewhere, but I can't remember where.

That arrow is confusing...so does MS 57 briefly multiplex with US 90, or does it end here and US 90 is straight, right, and left?
Pleased to meet you

^^ MS 57 ends at US 90, which itself is a divided roadway.

...which is what makes the other use of this arrow so interesting. Apparently, sometimes it indicates a divided highway, sometimes it evidences a very brief multiplex.

You can also find this arrow on Pine County Road 61 (old US 61) near Sturgeon Lake, MN where it intersects County Road 46. 46 has the slight jog along 61.
