I have an assignment to find sources for a paper about the evolution of American highways. Do any of you have some sources?
Direct your complaints about me to Archer City, FL. Direct anything else about me to my PM-box. Direct things NOT about me to the Hypnotuse. Or just send anything to Alanlans, that's alright too.

USends probably is a good place to go with all the maps and endpoint history:

Just grab pretty much everything before US 66, during when it existed, and after.  That would probably make for a compelling paper that would go from the Auto Trail Era to Interstate.

The internet and web searching is your friend.  usends.com may have some useful stuff, but it's almost exclusively about the US route system and generally doesn't delve into highway/roadway evolution.

Since it's going to need to be specific regarding your topic, Google.

While a lot of people here have had web pages and such, they tend to be route specific.  www.nycroads.com for example is an excellent source of the history of various routes, complete with references, and may even give you some insight as to how today's highways came to be what they are.  But, it will depend at how far back you need to look.

Assuming you're being vague because you're writing a general paper: http://archive.org/details/AmericasHighways1776-1976

I accept and respect your identity as long as it's not dumb shit like "identifying as a vaccinated attack helicopter".

I like The Roads that Built America by Dan McNichol.
