Kicking off 299, with something I took just yesterday.

CA 299, in Cedarville near its eastern end:

Also a backtrack from yesterday, CA 299's east end at the Nevada state line is marked by the change from pavement to gravel road, a state line sign, and a remnant route marker for the long-decommissioned Nevada 8A:

Literally beat me to it by a minute with CA 299 in Weaverville:

Funny thing about 8A, it was never state maintained apparently...  There was a whole bunch of those routes adopted but never put into practice in terms of Maintenance.  If you check out the CA 270/Bodie Road thread on the Pacific Southwest board I'll hit more on the subject since its kind of a fascinating one....in particular NV 3C.

Incidentally, welcome to California...anything in particular planned out?

It's complicated. I've been in CA for almost two weeks, entering at its SE corner. I'll be exiting today, heading north, only to return in about a week and a half. Then I fly back home (leaving my pickup truck behind), then fly back again in early August to resume my road trip and start heading north then east back to Virginia .

Other than that broad outline, there's not a lot of planning on this trip. Lots of on-the-fly itinerary changes, including the clinch of CA 299.

299 is a hell of a fun drive west of I-5 in the Trinity Range.  That is probably one of the most remote mountain highways in the states, sounds like a it was a lot of fun.  If you're in to mountain routes, all the Trans-Sierra routes are finally open for the season.  Ebbetts/CA 4 was the last to be cleared out from the snow.

Just a reminder about the change in schedules: Starting with 301, the number advances after 10 hours rather than 20. So 301 will go into play no earlier than 5:55am tomorrow and 302 will go into play no earlier than 3:55pm.

As for me, I just picked up a lot of low Louisiana numbers on my trip to Natchitoches this weekend. And getting to 300 means the "secondary" Louisiana highways finally come into play. So I will become a lot more active in this thread again.

Jim

Given how much time I spent on US 301 on my recent trip, I have to begin with that.  The hard part is choosing a good one.  I'll go with the place north of Ocala where US 301 has a single sign showing its concurrency with Florida 200, which is otherwise hidden between Ocala and Callahan.  February 18, 2012.

Ohio 301 near Laporte.  October 8, 2006.

And to get a third, I'll stretch a bit and say that Bypass US 301 is distinct from US 301.  Statesboro, Georgia.  February 16, 2012.
