I was thinking last night about views where you can see cities. For example you can see Philadelphia from the PHL airport.

You can see wilmington from 295 & the 495 bridge.

Is there an area in PA in which you
Can see New york? & can you
See philly from a certain part in NY!

How about any city.

You get a really good view of Cincinnati (Ohio) as you descend the hill on northbound I-75 in Kentucky.

You can see downtown Chicago from many distant spots. My favorites:

Mile Long Bridge (I-294)
Joliet Ave in Countryside (heading northeast)
Down the S-Curve heading eastbound on I-88
Eastbound I-90 from Elmhurst to I-294
123rd Street in Palos by the Metra station (looking northeast)
103rd and 95th streets just east of 88th Ave (looking northeast)

As far as long-distance views...seeing Wilmington from the Del. Mem. Br. Is only 5 or so miles away.  It's a better challenge to see Philly...which is about 25 miles away and is visible on fair, sunny days.

From the tallest skyscrapers of NYC, you can see about 50 or so miles away on the clearest of days. It may be possible to see PA near I-80...although you really wouldn't exactly know what you're seeing that far out. Philly is just too far away, basically due to the curvature of the Earth.

Downtown Los Angeles is visible for much of CA 2 on Angeles Crest and the Glendale Freeway.

On a clear day, you can see the Philly skyline from the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

On a clear day, you can see the spray from Niagara Falls from the observation levels at the CN Tower in Toronto. Some people claim you can see Rochester, but that's highly implausible because it's too far to the east. On a clear night you can see various city lights in St. Catharines and probably Niagara-on-the-Lake, though when we were at the CN Tower on the night of June 24 we couldn't see that far because a storm blew in.

The Episcopal cathedral in DC (the so-called "national"  cathedral) can be seen pretty easily from Tysons Corner in Virginia, especially from the Metro station between the two malls just outside the Beltway. For DC that's unusual because there aren't many tall buildings visible from a distance, although you can see downtown from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

Depending on what ride top you're on at Six Flags Great Adventure, you can see either Philly or New York if the weather's good.

Well, you sure won't see Miami from another state. In fact, it's kind of tough to see it from much of anywhere in the state, due to a lack of elevation, other than in the city or maybe from Miami Beach.

I've noticed that there aren't a lot of US cities you won't easily see from an airplane's window seat. Denver might be one, since you never really see much of it when flying into DEN. A lot of that depends on the flight paths chosen; I suppose you might see Denver's skyline if you flew around a wider arc for lots of other takeoffs or weather disruptions.

Mount Rainier can be seen from Canada (specifically places like Boundary Bay), but only the very top because of the Earth's curve. That's over 160 miles. (Source)

From Fresno Kings Canyon of the namesake National Park and the Great Western Divide of Sequoia National Park are easily observable.

Back in the pre-interstate days, there used to be a hotel/restaurant along US 30, west of Bedford, Pa that claimed one could see 3 states & 7 counties from it.

If you're on the right spots of the Western Promenade in Portland, ME, next to Maine Medical Center, you might see Mount Washington, NH if the weather is perfect. I didn't see it the last few times I was there myself, to be honest.

I searched online too see if anyone else could answer the question if you can see from Philly from NY. One person said NY from philly is 80 miles away. & the best time to see the farthest is a sunny winter morning, thats when it is the clearest visibility.

Maybe from the most southern part of NY on the tallest sky scraper & on the most Northern part of philly at its highest point you could possibly see the skyline of both cities (this is just a theory). Would it be easier with a telescope? Binoculars? Or even an HD camera with a zoomed lens?
