I didn't see a previous topic of this so I thought I would take a crack at it; what is your favorite community (I didn't want to limit this to incorporated places) in the State/Province/Parish/Territory/Other that you live in?  These past four years I've lived in California and I'd have to say that Monterey tops the list for me.  The City of Monterey has some deep rooted history before the American period so on it's own merit it is worth a visit in that context.  More so there are a ton of outdoor activities in the City and nearby like; Big Sur, Fort Ord National Monument, Fort Ord Dunes and the massive multi-use Monterey Bay Coastal Trail.  What puts Monterey over the top is that it still is a smaller city that hasn't been enveloped completely by urban sprawl or weekend tourism to the degree places like San Francisco or Pismo Beach have.

In other States I've lived in my personal favorites are as follows:

Florida:  Key West
Arizona:  Flagstaff
New Mexico:  Ruidoso
Nevada:  Virginia City
Illinois:  Chicago
Michigan:  Traverse City
Connecticut:  Mystic

In Kentucky, I quite like Pikeville and Somerset. Both are growing, both are decent-sized towns surrounded by rural and hilly (Somerset) or mountainous (Pikeville) terrain.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

There's so many great towns in Upstate NY that it's hard to choose.

I'd pick Rochester over any of the other major cities (obviously), but as far as smaller towns go, Canandaigua, Skaneateles, Ithaca, pretty much every town in the Adirondacks, would be potential options that I could make a case for.

On a more localized level, Fairport and Pittsford are both great villages.

I got nothin'.

Kansas City is a great place to visit, but most of the things are on the Missouri side.

For Michigan I would say Kalamazoo, just because I live there and nothing else really stands out as great.  I liked Asheville, NC the one time I visited to check out a college.  Dallas is my favorite big city.
