For me, Gallagher's in the New York New York casino in Vegas still takes top honors for the best steak I ever had.

Runner up? Taste of Texas in Houston.

Omaha has many good steak restaurants. I make a point of trying one out whenever I'm in the area around dinnertime. Usually, I don't dine at sit-down restaurants, but I'll make an exception for steak in Omaha.

The best steak I ever had probably was at Omaha Prime, in downtown Omaha. Pricey, but worth the splurge just that once.

I'm not super picky with my steaks–every steak is great, so long as it's not overcooked. I'm usually pretty happy with the steaks I cook myself on my stove.

The Gifu A5 Wagyu at Alexander's in Cupertino, CA. 3 ounce serving. We savored every little bite.

We don't do steak a lot when eating out (much more often we get a nice cut at Costco and grill it ourselves).

Personally, I can't taste that much of a difference between a $20 steak and a $50 one, other than the softer texture (and perhaps wasted scraps) you'll get.

During the season of our local farmer's market, I'll pick up some grass-fed beef about once a month and grill it in the backyard. Much more satisfying.

I've had some great steaks out at restaurants.  I've been to a couple Ruth's Chris locations and various other steakhouses can serve a great, high-end steak.  But like others here, I can make a pretty excellent ribeye, filet, or strip steak right on my own grill.  Add in some super fresh corn, maybe some potatoes also cooked on the grill, and salad made right out of the garden, and I'll put that meal up against just about any restaurant and at a tiny fraction of the cost.  I rarely order a steak at restaurants, because almost every time, I think how it's no better than what I can do myself.

Simpson Park in North Bend OR.  Bought a Porterhouse.  Wrapped it in foil with some margarine, salt and pepper.  Cooked it on a park grill.  This was the best tasting and textured steak I ever had despite the unusual location.

Never been to a high end steakhouse but a place I've been twice that had a terrific smoked sirloin was Hoffbrau's in Amarillo TX

Also a steakhouse on the IH 410 Service Road near SA International Airport in San Antonio. Can't remember the name but had a gigantic mural on the wall.  It might be defunct as it was 1997 I ate there.

Best steak I've ever had was the bone-in filet at Jeff Ruby's in Louisville. Even better was that it was at my wife's work Christmas party and I didn't have to pay for it.

Actually I remember what the best steak I had was, it was on 2/6/2010 at the Coronado Island brewery.  I was hit by a car while I was out running the day before I had just gotten out of the hospital with a broken left arm and some cracked ribs.  I was doped up on pain medicine and couldn't drive anywhere to eat, so I walked to the Coronado Island Brewery.  I had about three IPAs during that meal and they were even nice enough to cut the prime rib for me given my left arm was broken.  I don't know objectively if that was best steak I ever had but that was definitely a slice of heaven amid the circumstances.  I remember leaving something absurd like a $30 dollar tip.

That's a cool story....not your being hit, but that level of service.

PS. 3 IPAs sounds like awesome pain medicine!😂
