Same here.  Plus I feel awkward going to a sit-down restaurant by myself.

On long trips it would be fast food, but not very often, I hate stopping and getting off the road. Lose to much time.

A few years ago a friend and I drove from NE to Philly, first day he insisted on stopping at EVERY rest area to pee and drink a Pepsi.  I wasn't driving, so had no say in it.

On day 2, I drove, and made sure he pee'd before we started, and we did NOT stop at that first rest area so he could grab a Pepsi.  He wasn't very happy but he was going to turn a 2 day trip into a 3 day nightmare with his tiny bladder. On that trip it was a little fast food once during the day, and a nice sit down steak at night.

We're still friends, but I probably would not drive cross country with him again, LOL!

Same here; but I still do it on occasion.

Most restaurants have a bar with seating. Even if you don't drink, eating alone at the bar is much less weird than taking a table for one. That's my go to strategy when I'm on the road for work.
