Not sure if anyone posted this way back when but given the numerous I-99 threads (in various categories including the Fictional Highways section); I came across this November 2006 VDOT report for a I-99 corridor that would run from Delaware south through Maryland, Virginia and both North & South Carolinas.

http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/resources/I-99_Final_Report_-_VDOT_website.pdf

Note: one letter from the Maryland Department of Transportation mentions that the I-99 number is currently used in PA along the US 220 corridor.

In theory, since the corridor does not enter into PA and its proximity to the current I-99 is far enough away to avoid confusion with most motorists nor conflict with the PA (& soon NY) segments of I-99; it could conceivably still carry the I-99 designation without too much conflict.  So what if PennDOT and descendants of Bud Shuster get their panties in a wad if this was actually built.  This would be a more appropriate I-99 IMHO.

QuoteThe short conclusion is that insufficient funding or interest exists to make this a reality any time soon. The study concludes that existing routes in this corridor undergo improvements to access control to approximate the benefit an interstate would provide.

It's been mentioned in the past....usually whenenver someone suggests there should be an Interstate along the Delmarva.  SPUI mentions what Mike and I posted on VHP about it.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does VHP mean in your post?  I know that you're not referring to Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide or Veterans History Project nor any of these:

Might be a great Fictional Highways debate to discuss how to get I-99 from Bedford, Pa. to the Wilmington area.

I-76 to I-476 to I-95 is the most logical alternative.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

Not Wilmington, but I-70 to I-97 and over the CBB to Salisbury is a little more logical.

That would put I-99 going through Breezewood. There's delicious irony in that.

FTFY. Also, you'd have to use I-695 to get from I-70 to I-97.
