Progress to report in constructing the last segment of the Loop from Camden Road to US 401:
https://www.ncdot.gov/news/press-releases/Pages/2023/2023-02-22-camden-road-lane-closures.aspx

Completion by Summer 2026?? Why so long?
When you come to a fork in the road... TAKE IT.

Google has dropped some new (March 2023) Street View imagery displaying progress on I-295:
No progress at Strickland Bridge Road.

Google Maps labels a portion of future Interstate 295 as Garrison Drive: https://www.google.com/maps/@34.9285335,-78.9843959,1329m/data=!3m1!1e3. Does anyone know why that is?

Probably just an error ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I couldn't find any Garrison Drive anywhere in the Fayetteville-Parkton area and Bing Maps has no such street anywhere in the area. So this is not a label misplaced from a nearby street, it was dropped in from nowhere. A very strange mistake indeed.

NCDOT announces road closure as part of constructing I-295 Camden Road interchange (which may open next summer):

Google Maps has updated its Street View coverage at both ends of I-295. At the north end in August, I was able to get screen grabs of new overhead signs along I-95:

(The name change of Fort Bragg is not indicated on any of the signs.)

And on the southern end, construction of the future I-95/I-295 interchange from June:

Google Maps has since jumped the gun and shows this interchange as complete:

When are they going to open that last link?

It seems both NC and TN have slow contractor's when it comes to this and I-69 in NW Tennessee.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

I believe Interstate 295 will be completed in 2026.

Considering construction began in 2020, that's a lot of time. Ditto for the Union City Bypass in TN. Both were started in 2020 and still awaiting completion.

HistoricAerials shows Union City bypass under construction in 2010.  In 2010 only a 6 miles were open on I-295, compared to 24 today.  No comparison to be had here...

I don't know about I-69, but I think COVID really slowed down the Fayetteville Loop Project. I remember reading that the whole thing was supposed to get done in 2024. Now they are saying just the portion from I-95 to Parkton Rd will be done next summer. Then the remaining section up to US 401 will be done in 2026.

Not talking about the projects as a whole, but the remaining segment of I-295 verses the entire Union City Bypass as a whole. Both have moved at snail's pace on a timeline.

In June, Google Maps updated its Street View on future Interstate 295 between Leeper Rd. (Exit 2) and Glenn Rd. (Exit 4). The sideroads sign the new roadway as NC 295. Google Maps also hasn't eliminated the inaccurate Garrison Dr. name.

I've posted new photos taken by David Gallo at the US 401/Raeford Road exit with I-295, including one of the updated control city of Fort Liberty on the overhead signs:

Can confirm most references to Fort Bragg are gone. Coming back from Thanksgiving, I remember seeing one sign on the Murchinson Road Frwy still mentioning Fort Bragg, probably just forgotten about.

I saw a Fort Bragg sign yesterday on the ramp from 95 south to NC 24.

As for 295 at the south end, I saw where it looks like overhead signs are now in place at the south end of 295 where it will split to 95 north and south.  And it seems to me like they might be waiting for the 95 widening to be finished in this area before they open up the interchange with 295.  They both seem to be in sync to finish and open at the same time.

NCDOT says the Fayetteville Outer Loop is now open from Camden Road to I-95, sort of. You can now take 295 South (press release is calling it I-295, I assume it is signed like the previously opened section as NC 295) to I-95 South, but you can't get on 295 from I-95 or take 295 to I-95 North, that will have to wait until the widening project is complete:

I messaged Brent (flroads) about this as he's traveling northward across North Carolina today. He decided to check it out and posted three pics on the AARoads Facebook Page (should be viewable by anyone without a Facebook account).

Kinda interesting they have the ramp to I-95 NB signed as Exit 1 but SB doesn't have an exit number at all. Thought it would've been split between Exits 1A&B.

Then again I-85 NB defaulting into 95 NB doesn't have an exit number either, but that might have something to do with the former RPT.

Already shadowed this on the NC page. Looks like a summer 2025 completion of 95NB ramps before they can be opened.

Why the signs say Benson instead of Dunn? I know that 40 crosses in Benson, but Dunn is first before Benson.

Google Maps finally got rid of the Garrison Dr. designation on Interstate 295. I'd still like to know who put it on there in the first place. Probably some nutcase.

I think it's AI scrubbing the street view video, and grabbing sign info, at least for some routes.  Saw that with some of the "Future" interstate signs that they prematurely posted.

I wouldn't fully trust all Google Map info.  Back when I-85 was being widened in the Charlotte area, they actually marked it as being fully closed.  I sent them an email immediately, using an official NCDOT 'email address.  Took them about six months to reply, with a condescending email more or less saying "we have confirmed your information."

And in an emergency such as a hurricane, absolutely do not trust Google Maps or WAZE (owned by Google) information over the official information.  As an example, during Hurricane Florence (2018, IIRC) they continued to show I-40 and other roads open, even though it was under ten feet of water.  They never confirmed this (would have had to admit their mistake) but we believe they were tracking the cell phones of rescue personnel going down I-40 in boats.  To Google, that was enough to say it was open.
