When someone decides to use more than 3 colors, it should be a conscious decision made with intent, and they should try to closely adhere to the rest of the Principles--unless there is a good reason to stray from another one.

TIIRC, that 'flag' was a battle banner that was only used by one unit in an obscure battle.

Still a traitor flag.

Still not the point.  My point (if it were the flag I had referred to, which it isn't, because it isn't the Stars and Bars) was that it's a non-state flag that armies marched under.

Unfortunately, a lot of time, some flags that have good designs are symbolic for very bad things. I'm not advocating the use of them because of what they have come to represent but the Gadsden, "Stars and Bars", and the German Reich flags were quite distinctive yet simple. Just saying.

A square version was used by the Army of Northern Virginia, definitely not obscure as that was Lee's army. The rectangular version was used by the Army of Tennessee which was also involved in a fair number of battles, though they spent most of the last two years of the war getting repeatedly beaten by Sherman and/or running away before he got to them.

The 'Stars and Bars' was the national flag of the Confederacy and is what the current Georgia state flag is based on, it just had seven white stars in a circle in its blue field.

I like the concept, but it's too plain.

The flags designed to the North American Vexillogolical Association's standards will be looked back upon as stupid mistakes...mostly.

You're just mad because your state has a seal on a bedsheet. Which is to flag design as Olive Garden is to restaurants.

Is it just me or does the new Minnesota state flag look like it was inspired by a foreign national flag?

IMHO, lose the star and it will be a great design.

I've posted somewhere multiple times that our state flag is one of the best.  This bias against a "seal on a bedsheet" is ridiculous and objectively unfounded.

When you have Liberty stomping on the British Crown and "Excelsior" in grand letters on your flag next to it, yeah, I'll take that over the ugly clipart flags currently being adopted.

*sigh*

A lot of flags unintentionally look similar. There is no conspiracy theory here.

Recently read up on the Know Nothings and their conspiratorial ideas.  At least the general mentality seems to be experiencing a renaissance.

Without the star too much of the flag would be white.  When it was partly folded by the wind, it could look like a surrender flag.

Letters on a flag are an auto-fail, no matter how grand they are.

There's a part of Reddit I hang out in where they let you have little flag icons next your name to show where you're from. The New York flag looks real grand there, lemme tell you.

None of the state flags in that screenshot look particularly good, although at least New Jersey is identifiable from the piss yellow. Can you tell the difference between NY and ND at that scale?

Their Minnesota icon, on the other hand, is easily recognizable.

They are so small!  California's bear just looks like a brown dot.

Pfft.  Oh no.  It's not tiny enough for Reddit.  The horror.

Still will take our flag over MN's, any day.  They should have gone with the loon.

Or change the star color to the same shade of green as the pine tree.

Like what exactly? Numerous Nordic cross designs were submitted and considered, and nobody complained about those.
