I must say, I would like to experience temps of 110F+ at least once. Would be interesting to see for myself how it compares to 80-90F with high humidity.

7/8

It's been sunny all day and just reached a high of 25C (77F), very nice weather for Canada Day! :D

Plane tickets to Vegas are cheap. Come for a weekend and try it out! Maybe rent a car and drive out to Furnace Creek so you can try 120 too?

I haven't done 114 yet, but 110 is really not as bad as I thought it would be. But I'm used to 100 with a dewpoint of 75, so 110 with a dewpoint of 27 feels like a cakewalk. Your mileage may vary.

The main thing is to remember to bring cold water with you when you leave the house. Otherwise, everyone treats it basically the way I imagine New Yorkers treat snow—stay inside as much as possible, and when you do have to go outside, don't linger unnecessarily.

At this point, LA is my most likely base to get to the desert. It's not at the very top of my travel priorities but I do want to make it happen at some point.

To be honest, that is also how we handle heat here, because of the humidity. Basically anything above 80 is usually no fun to be outside in for extended periods unless you're near the lake or ocean.

Keeping an eye on Hurricane Beryl, which could be landing somewhere around the similar locations as Albert did -- Northern Mexico or South Texas.  Planning and preparations along the Texas coast are already underway; even Southeastern Louisiana (Lake Charles area) might want to monitor the storm's track.

Meanwhile, right around normal conditions for South Texas as we would expect them to be on Independence Day:

                                    ACTUAL                              AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:     98 high; 84 low                  97 high; 79 low
CORPUS CHRISTI:  97 high; 83 low                  95 high; 80 low
LAREDO:              102 high; 80 low                103 high; 78 low
MCALLEN:            100 high; 81 low                100 high; 80 low

Winds are coming from direct south (instead of the SE), which is keeping our humidity fairly moderate as the dew point are only around low-to-mid 70s, which will keep the Heat Index in check for now.

Nighttime Heat Index: 85-90 degrees
Daytime Heat Index: around 110 degrees
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

Fresno is forecasted to have highs of 110F or more for the next ten days.  Considering I've lived through numerous Florida summers I don't see the point in complaining like everyone else around me.

The west coast heat wave is beginning.

For all-time record highs, southern OR, extreme northern CA, southern NV, and parts of northern NV have a solid shot of beating the record. NWS Medford OR says that Roseburg, Montague, and Mt Shasta City have a >70% chance of breaking all-time record highs (low-mid 100s) on Saturday. The official NWS Vegas forecast for Las Vegas has them topping the all-time high by 1 degree on Monday. NWS Reno has this area staying just below the all-time record of 108, but within striking range on Saturday and Sunday. Lake Tahoe should get into the 90s, decent chance Markleeville hits 100.

NWS Las Vegas also says ~25% chance Death Valley reaches or exceeds 130, the highest officially verified temperature ever recorded.

Welcome to Breezewood, PA... the parking lot between I-70 and I-70.

I guess I should be savoring the "cool" weather.

Man, I wouldn't want to be in Palm Springs right now.

I would be interested to know if @kernals12 has changed his outlook on the climate now that he's experiencing things like 117° on the regular.

Won't be tripping over any icy sidewalks anytime soon.

Just have to worry about possible second-degree burns from hot metal railings and door handles.

The motor on my heat pump decided to die right before two back to back 114F days in the forecast.  I was able to get an HVAC repair appointment tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath for a quick fix.

On the bright side I'm going camping in the mountains most of next week.  The last time this happened the house ended up getting to about 95F during the day.  I have a swamp cooler set up in the bedroom for tonight and plan on buying a window unit depending on how things go tomorrow.

74 with drizzle and thunder.

Well, the compressor motor finally bit the dust.  Can't say it didn't get our money out of it given the AC system was installed in 2007.  I said fuck it and just funded replacing the whole thing.

Today was a July record for Fresno at 112F.  Surprisingly the house only got up to 89F.

Ted$8roadFan

79, partly cloudy and quite humid.

Lots of iPhone people claiming it hit 116F in Fresno today (which would be an all time record).  All the actual weather services are showing a high of 113F from what I can tell.

cl94

A balmy 104 in Reno right now. Depending on the NWS source, either 105 or 106 so far at KRNO. Got to 90 before 11 AM. Even with my A/C set to 78, it is running more often than not. Today ties the record for days in a row of 105+, tomorrow would beat it if some of the forecasts hold. We are very likely to tie or break the record for 100+ days in a row next weekend.

But hey, at least we're not Las Vegas. They hit 120 today, shattering the all-time record of 117.
