I've got to admit, they're hanging on longer than most of us, including me, predicted back in 2018 when this poll opened.

Likewise.  I thought the fall would've been much faster, especially during Covid.  Lampert is taking his sweet time finishing them off.

Almost makes me want to take a road trip to Tukwila to see what they're selling.

Their website still operates, surprisingly to me anyway. Their new logo looks like a yanked tooth. They still sell their familiar brands — Craftsman, Kenmore, DieHard, etc. — even though they sold those brands long ago.

But the closest Sears store left is in El Paso, so I won't be going anytime soon. Too bad — my mom was a Sears P1.

I thought it looked like a bouncey house. Appropriate for them since when they close a store they can just deflate it and be on their way.

QuoteIn an email to the Herald-Republic, he stressed that the reopening is permanent

That is quite wishful thinking.

^^ How long do re-openings last? :hmmm:

The first floor looks normal, with the usual perfume displays.  The second floor looks like an outlet store, even though it has a direct-mall entrance too.  The third floor is closed with the escalator walled off and the elevator buttons covered up.  Sears closes an hour before the rest of the mall.

What is happening on this planet right now?!

Even weirder, Ames is trying to come back in a few years. Although that would shock me if it happens.

I've heard the Ames thing is an elaborate hoax.

I recently found out that there are now two K-Mart stores left in the world, and one of them is in Bridgehampton, New York.

So the Hamptons are holding on.

Isn't the Kmart brand in Australia still thriving?

Which is really ironic because people in the Hamptons are usually considered upper-class.  Kmart shouldn't be on their "must shop at" lists...

Perhaps it's where their domestic servants shop.

It's not owned by Lampert and hasn't had a connection to the US Kmart since at least the 1990s.

I would stop in a Kmart if one was open. The last one in Michigan closed about 3 years ago. I actually went to it not long before it closed. It's weird that Sears and Kmart are no longer in the state.

Here are the some of the remaining KMART's and Sears stores as of August 2024 before they close for good. Here is one from 2023 when a film crew filmed a KMART in Guam.

Just think, in another generation young people will be watching Ruthless People and have no idea what Bette Midler is talking about when she's been Kidnapped by K-Mart.
