Quote from: Max Rockatansky on August 27, 2024, 07:31:17 PMTo be fair, I would imagine a lot straight dudes in the road community dream of meeting someone of the opposite sex into roads or road signs.
There's dreams, there's big dreams, there's delusions, and then there's the second half of that sentence.

"On our honeymoon, we'll clinch every state highway in Vermont and New Hampshire!"

"Oh yes, my love.  And our first child's middle name will be Interstate!"

"God this is making me so horny.  Let's pull over and do it right now in our back seat here on US 20!"

Quote from: JayhawkCO on August 27, 2024, 03:59:55 PMI'm trying to imagine an actual hot chick sitting there, combing through Facebook posts, saying "Yep, that's the guy I can sucker."

My understanding is that this is an actual problem here in Las Vegas. The first phase of dating in LV is feeling the other party out to see whether they are a "professional".

Great, so first dates can be even more stressful than they are anyway.

Anyone who believes astrological signs actually matter would be a negative (but not an absolute dealbreaker) for me.

That said, there are some road signs that would have general public appeal, such as the silly pun here.

I pretty much ruled out women that believed in things that didn't exist when I was dating. To me, believing in Gemini "traits" is just as nutso as thinking the Easter Bunny exists.

They do it because they see ur single and feel u out either on Facebook or Instagram.

Some from the Philippines use text apps on phones or WhatsApp to say " Hello is Gary there?"  Then you try to be nice and say " Wrong Number."  Then they say sorry, oh BTW how are you. I live in the Philippines and your country code says USA.  How's the weather?

They do that to get you to converse so they can phish you.

Oh Rothman people like you better watch out because you and your partner NE2 are prime targets for these phishers.

That's why I block or ignore those strangers.

Unfortunately no one does, but many people believe that their conning personality can get one out of one hundred people to fall for them.

Back to discussion, I don't like the new PCs having the battery inside the unit so when the battery ages and gets senile, it requires you to get a new pc instead of going to Batteries Plus and purchase a replacement battery.

Ditto with Apple Products concealing the location of the battery where only their technicians can access it especially IPhones.

Senior citizens are the biggest prey. Someone called my mom when she was alive to say her grandson was kidnapped in which he wasn't. My mom freaked out as she was in her eighties on meds slowing her mind down.

Then there are phony IRS scammers who leave voicemails saying that people are in trouble with the US Government over tax issues.  Even Clark Howard says it's a scam, but admits many fall for it and pay tax money out to crooks.

Oh, and the people who say they're from Amazon saying your account is breached and someone is using your account for purchases when your account is fine. They hope to get you to call their toll free number and get you to buy Amazon gift cards for them.

The list goes on.

A vast majority of the regulars on this forum also have a Facebook road group presence.  None of these names being mentioned are socks.

Quote from: J N Winkler on August 27, 2024, 06:06:06 PMA related annoyance:  reply comments along the lines of "I like your [post, photo, or other self-generated content].  Will you send me a friend request?"  I don't think I've ever had this happen to me, but it can be a real problem for women on Facebook, including ones in their eighties.

Most of those occur on public posts. I have a number of FB friends who always set their posts to "Public." Invariably, a male poster will get the female catfishers, while females get those replies from males.

Moral of the story: Don't set your posts to "Public;" instead set them to "friends only" or certain subsets of your friends. And don't reply to posts that are set to "Public."

This is also a problem on Facebook Pages. In my particular case, I can't ban the offending posters, but I can and do hide their offending posts.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

I did do that. That's how I found out that he wasn't a sock puppet. I ran it by an administrator and he told me he knew the names of both parties and I was assured as I said that both had different names.

Yup.  This is one of many reasons I hardly ever share posts or set my own to be world-visible.  However, I have had to accept that large numbers of users--including a few of my Facebook friends--intentionally default to "Public" not solely from naïveté about the consequences of doing so.
