(Also affects PA 153)  PennDOT - District 2 News: PennDOT Changes Traffic Pattern for I-80 Preservation Project

QuoteClearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that the contractor for an Interstate 80 preservation project between mile markers 97 and 120 in Clearfield County changed the traffic pattern on I-80 and Route 153 earlier this week. This project will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of nearly 24 miles of roadway and six bridges along this I-80 corridor.

The contractor closed the left (passing) lane on I-80 westbound at mile marker 111 to reconstruct the roadway under the Route 153 overpass. It also closed the right (travel) lane of Route 153 northbound heading toward Penfield and closed the on-ramp to I-80 westbound, normally accessible via that lane. Northbound traffic will now access I-80 westbound by turning left and crossing both southbound lanes of Route 153 to use the southbound on-ramp. Signing and channelizing devices will be in place to direct traffic.

PennDOT anticipates this traffic pattern will remain in place until the end of October. All work is weather-dependent.

Overall work on this project involves paving, bridge improvements, installation of Intelligent transportation devices, guide rail installation, pavement marking, and miscellaneous construction. HRI, Inc., of State College, is the contractor on this $47.7 million project. PennDOT anticipates project completion in November 2025. All work is weather-dependent.

(For US 6, US 19, and US 322)  PennDOT - District 1 News: Traffic Shifts on Route 6 in Crawford County to be Implemented Soon

QuoteThe Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is reminding drivers to be alert for traffic shifts and lane restrictions on Route 6 in the City of Meadville and West Mead Township in Crawford County.

The construction of temporary crossovers and removal of some curbs will require lanes restrictions for eastbound and westbound traffic. The temporary lane restrictions are expected to start September 20, 2024, weather permitting.

Once the crossovers are complete, westbound traffic will be restricted to one lane and eastbound traffic will be shifted the westbound side of the roadway. This will be a long-term traffic pattern as work focuses on reconstruction the new two-way configuration in the area currently designated for eastbound traffic.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.

Work on the Route 6 Reconstruction Project is expected to be completed in fall 2025. Additional information on the project is available online at www.penndot.pa.gov/District1 under the Design and Construction Projects link.

This project is funded at least in part by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). In 2024 alone, the BIL is bringing approximately $25 million in additional funding to the northwest region to be allocated by the department and its local Metropolitan and Rural Planning Organization (MPO/RPO) partners.

(For PA 462)  PennDOT - District 8 News: Short-term Closure Tonight on the Route 462 Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge

QuoteHarrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today there will be a short-term closure tonight at the interim repair project for the Route 462 Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge spanning the Susquehanna River between Columbia in Lancaster County and Wrightsville in York County.

Weather permitting, at approximately 7:00 PM tonight, Thursday, September 26, a closure of up to 15 minutes will be implemented on the bridge so the contractor can perform bridge jacking on the Wrightsville side of the structure. Delays are expected during the stoppage.

The interim repair project includes repairing bridge beams and strengthening select columns on the west (Wrightsville) half of the bridge.

Vehicle, bike, and pedestrian traffic currently not restricted from using the bridge will be maintained throughout the construction period.

Long-term lane shifts will be in place. One lane of traffic will be open in each direction on the bridge for much of this project. However, there also may be short-term closures and intermittent single lane restrictions under flagging, as needed.

Boaters can avoid under-bridge work locations by following signs placed on the side of the bridge.

CriLon Corp., of Somerset, PA, is the contractor on this $910,780 project. All work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

A 10-ton weight restriction currently is in place on the bridge. The restriction was implemented last year after a routine inspection uncovered deterioration to the primary load carrying members of the open spandrel concrete arch spans along portions of the bridge.

This restriction, which was implemented to reduce strain on the bridge and prevent further deterioration, will remain in place after the interim repairs are completed.
