Can't help but think this has quite a bit to do with Sean Payton's familiarity with the NFC South.

This game is different though....the pride of the Lone Star State is on the line here.  Both teams are playing for the Governer's Cup.  I don't know about millions of Cowboys fans outside the state of Texas, but every Cowboys & Texans fan within the state will be tuning in this game for bragging rights.  The rivalry is fierce -- it's a Big Brother vs Little Brother type rivalry.  Each team's fans want their team to crush the other team.  Both teams usually bring maximum effort against each other.  Whereas there has never been any sort of rivalry between the Patriots and Texans.

You'll win by double digits and have 5+ sacks.

Ahem.

I guess I need to start listening to you from now on.

The Texans remain unbeaten vs the Cowboys in night games at 3-0.  And as a bonus our offense scores a second-half TD for the first time in nearly a month.  But my compliments to Mike McCarthy for keeping his team within striking distance all the way into the third quarter, I need to give Mike some credit there.  You could tell the Cowboys weren't backing down; the game was actually a lot more hotly contested than the 34-10 score indicated; and the game even got quite chippy with the altercations.  And despite being without our best defender Will Jr. our defense, when we needed them most, came up huge in his absence.

The Texans need to keep up the intensity and disregard the Titan's record; that game is not going to be that easy...The Texans are 1-4 at home vs Titans in this decade.  While it's natural to expect a 'W' next Sunday, but I don't believe the scoring margin will be that far apart as it was tonight.
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

The Cowboys stink and have largely given up on the season. Their only touchdown was on a defensive breakdown otherwise they were largely ineffective on offense.

Could be. Or it could be the NFC South is just really bad.

This. Nix has surprised me, but he's not quite as good as his stats recently are showing. The Broncos D has been very solid as expected, but the no-name receiving core (outside of maybe Sutton) shouldn't be as effective as they have been against these pretty bad NFC South defenses.

Quote from: ET21 on November 18, 2024, 01:28:40 PMFantasy is the only thing keeping my slightest of interests intact for the NFL. Bears season is done unless they somehow pull magic out and win at least half of their remaining games to regain some sort of confidence.

What a shitshow.

This season is lost, but there is some promise. Williams looks a lot better, and the new playcaller is a massive improvement. Improving the interior of the OL and DL is an absolute must to take the next step.

The biggest problem with the Bears is that their schedule is pretty brutal coming up. And the new tendencies on offense could be adjusted to fairly quickly.

Minnesota
at Detroit on Thanksgiving
at San Francisco
at Minnesota
Detroit

Then they host the Seahawks on Boxing Day (week 17) and then right after the flip of the calendar they close out the season at Green Bay (exact date and time not yet announced, week 18).  The Packers have now won 11 straight v the Bears, so only a little relief as a Christmas present.

Either way, it's safe to say having the NFC South on their schedule is the main reason the Broncos are in playoff contention. They're 2-5 otherwise.

Looking ahead a bit, the NFL's featured late afternoon presentation on Thanksgiving Day is the Food Poisoning of Football Games:  New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys.

The next day, their attempt to establish a new tradition of an NFL game on Black Friday showcases the unwatchably putrid Las Vegas Raiders.

Big John

^^ They had plenty of food poisoning in the early games in the past with the Lions.

These were the same lines I thought along when the Raiders played last Christmas, and look what happened.
From the land of red, white, yellow and black.

Game 3 on Thanksgiving, the Dolphins @ Packers, should be a fun time for us NE Wisconsinites!

Now that Tua is back, the Dolphins are playing better. I wouldn't be so sure it'll be that fun.

I'm OK with that. That matchup was like diarrhea vs. puke.

Hey, do you know why the Vikings used so much glass when building their new stadium?

Because they didn't need any to build a trophy case.

At least they couldn't use the sun shining through the windows as en excuse this last game, it was at night!

Funnily, the US Bank Stadium situation is exactly what the Jerry World situation was supposed to be. US Bank lets in a ton of natural light for day games and is also oriented east-west, but the Minneapolis skyline to the west prevents the sun from becoming a nuisance. Jerry thought that there would be major development immediately to the west of AT&T Stadium, which would have absolved the sun problem, but that never happened.

It must have looked better on paper this past spring:
* Lions: 12-5 vs Bears: 7-10
* Cowboys: 12-5 vs Giants: 6-11 (but a rivalry game)
* Miami: 11-6 vs Green Bay: 9-8
* Las Vegas: 8-9 vs Chiefs: 11-6

One remembers when the Lions was the worst team no wins stretching from the last week of the 2007 season to the week 2 of the 2009 season.

I don't think the NFL cares all that much if they have a good slate of games on Thanksgiving. They know people will watch regardless.

Black Friday may be different though because of so many college games on the same day. At least they are playing in the afternoon, because you have Texas at A&M Saturday night, which is just going to be wild.

Max Rockatansky

The Cowboys losing to the Giants sounds like quality entertainment to me.

After watching last night's game Steelers at Browns, all I can say is thank goodness I live farther south than "The South", where I'll never have to deal with snow.
