QuoteSomething tells me that pattern will continue to persist, their next four victories (finishing the regular season) will combine for a single-digit margin just as their last four.  They won their last two Super Bowls by a combined six points.

That would not only be unprecedented in NFL history, it would cause a total nationwide meltdown.

Not THAT unprecedented. The Vikings two years ago went 11-0 in one-score games in the regular season

8-0 with a +18 point differential, averaging less than a field goal margin of victory *in eight consecutive weeks* , is an entirely different level than even the 2022 Vikings. The Vikings had a number of games they won by 7 or 8 sprinkled in, which are completely different than games won decided by 3 or less, not to mention three losses and three multi-score wins, also sprinkled in.

Just saying those are in the same ballpark. I fully expect the Chiefs to do much better in the playoffs than the Vikes did that year though.

It's amusing to me how "fraudulent x-1 record" somehow equates to "one and done in the playoffs, dynasty over".

2023 Chiefs through week 14: 8-5, +64 point difference
2024 Chiefs through week 14: 12-1, +56 point difference

The Chiefs are so fraudulent, their record should be . . . 8-5. The same 8-5 where they just won the Super Bowl. On top of that, looks like this time they'll have a bye and home field throughout the playoffs.

I'm amused at how most people have completely forgotten how last year went down.  The Chiefs looked lethargic until they turned it on during their playoff run.  Yeah sure, lots of teams got them in the regular season last year but now they aren't.  How exactly is the result not expected to be similar come playoffs now with a likely bye and a healthy roster?

I read on Twitter that the Bills only have to contend with the "corpse of the Chiefs" to go to the Super Bowl. I'm pretty sure some variant of "corpse" has been thrown around in each of the last 3 seasons that the Chiefs, y'know, beat the Bills in the playoffs. It's incredible how short memories are.

The corpse of the Chiefs > the live bodies of the Rams.

jgb191

How much does fatigue factor in?  The Chiefs have played seven playoff games in the last two seasons combined, equivalent to playing nearly 2.5 seasons crammed in two the last two.  Do they have enough fuel left to pull off another Vince Lombardi trophy?  Probably one of the factors that prevented 3-peats in Super Bowl history; even repeats are very rare only happening once per decade.

Yes, ESPN wanted to flex in another game but couldn't because of this

Homer Simpson on a rookie contract is 90% as good as Dak for 10% of the price.

He will accept it only if UNC agrees to his terms - which he reportedly outlayed in a 400 page proposal that would require them to devote significanly more resources to the football program.

This is truly a terrible idea for UNC. He's 72 years old, wasn't great to end his career in New England, and wants his kid to succeed him.

Big John

And if he is rough on his players thete as he was with the Patriots, watch the transfer portal go wild.

Taking the meaning of "entering the transfer portal" to a whole new level.

Brock Purdy, welcome to playing for a team with an average amount of talent.

With all the injuries and drama, this season should have been the one where Purdy left no shadow of a doubt by maintaining a high level despite the drop-off in supporting cast. Instead I'm not so sure.

Maybe Purdy will be the first to break the cycle of ever-rising QB contracts. Jags are in shambles, Kirk is on an awful run, Tua can barely throw a ball against a team with a record better than 3-10, Watson might never play another snap. Purdy is better than all those guys, but (excluding Watson) . . . by how much? Baker's contract seems about right for Purdy. Over $50m/year would keep me up at all hours of the night if I was the 49ers GM.

For the Texans to clinch the division on Sunday, both of the following conditions must be fulfilled:

A:  Texans must beat the Dolphins

AND

B:  Broncos must beat the Colts

If both conditions are not met (Colt or Dolphins or both win), the AFC South division championship remains open for at least another week.

That tnf game just ruined a whole lot of fantasy playoff seasons. Not mine thankfully.

I was thiiiiis close to benching Kupp last night and couldn't find it to pull the trigger. I'm still 45% to win.

The Ghostbuster

What a snooze-fest the TNF game was. One week after the Rams put up 44 points, and the 49ers put up 38 points, the Rams won 12-6 in a game that only featured field goals. Although I watched the entire game, I could have skipped it.

Max Rockatansky

Although it does have consequences.  The Rams are back in the hunt for the division and a wildcard spot.

Just being low-scoring is a snoozefest?

I know football doesn't have such a position, but pitchers and goaltenders are credited with keeping the opposing team at 0 with its own statistic.

I certainly had an investment given my wife's family is a mix of Rams and 49ers fans.  It was fun to sit back and watch the shit talking for the entire night.
