Not so weird considering the undesirable truck movements through the Finger Lakes communities.  They complain, but NYSDOT and other transportation agencies can't outright ban trucks, so you get signage like this.

Yuck. Who designed this?

Oh, it gets better. This sign is before the primary ramp:

Can anybody explain why two on-ramps in rapid succession like this are desirable.

Helps with traffic.
One is for Allison Dr traffic. The other is for Nut Tree Rd traffic.

The guide signs for WIS 23 Business in Green Lake all have skinny banners and arrows. The only exceptions are the signs along WIS 23, which makes me think Green Lake had these made without WisDOT's approval.

The Hill Street sign is just downright ugly.  We have all complained about California's poor adoption of exit numbers, but this just seems dramatically bad to have the exit number so far to the left of where they want traffic to go.

This vantage point is one of the most classic vantage points for L.A.  since Hill Street is basically a straight line from the line of sight of the 110 freeway and you have a gorgeous view of City Hall and other Downtown buildings.  Compare to some of the older signs:

Hard to tell from your photo, but I think those are old 12 inch Crouse-hinds heads.
It's all fun & games until someone summons Cthulhu and brings about the end of the world.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

That internal exit tab on the Hill St sign seems ridiculously large (and I'm not even talking about the added height to accommodate the "left" placard)... I mean it's probably correct FHWA exit tab sizing, but much larger than the typical Caltrans internal exit tab—the width and letter sizes seem huge.

If they had to have an exit tab that big, and they couldn't increase sign panel area*, they would have done well to abbreviate "Street" and "Center" so that the text doesn't need to be squished. (* Although with reduced sign legends on the other panels on this sign bridge in recent sign replacements, I'm sure they could've reduced the panel area on the other signs on this bridge to widen the Hill St exit sign panel to achieve a better layout and still kept the structure within wind loading criteria.)
