Quote from: Mapmikey on January 28, 2025, 08:18:09 AMalso consider:  the ball is frequently moved further forward by either momentum of the ball carrier coming to a halt after being down or on line-to-gain/goal line plays where the ball carrier keeps trying to reach the ball across after the whistle blows.  Can a detection system be designed that can know the position of the ball exactly when the player is down or the whistle blows for forward progress and ignore what the ball is doing after those things...?

I say the NFL deploys a drone in red zone situations with an X-ray emitter/receiver and employs radiologists to determine touchdowns.  Cancer is a small price to pay for accurate calls.

You'd need to insert perhaps six sensors inside every football (each tip, perhaps four along the fat part) and then have a way to capture location within an inch or so. I think Air Tags are only good to three feet or so - the technology may not be there yet.

It depends on which iPhone model you use. I have an iPhone 15 Pro and I tried it while I was eating lunch to see how close it would go before it said "here." The display said "0.5 feet" before switching (that is, six inches).

Of course, you couldn't very well have an official with an iPhone standing within six inches of the football at all times for rather obvious reasons, so there would have to be some other way to do it. I have no idea what that would be.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"

The technology is there. In soccer the referee's watch vibrates whenever the ball is over the goal line.

You could probably get away with two, and then extrapolate the full dimensions from them.

I had a dream the other night that the Steelers won a lottery to replace the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, and went on to win the game.

So a Keystone Super Bowl took place then? That would've been an awesome matchup, and I remember how close we came to having one several times through the years until one or both teams got knocked out of the conference championship.
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

I'm eagerly awaiting the Super Bowl tomorrow and hope that the Chiefs get destroyed by the Eagles and that Kendrick Lamar gives us a good halftime show. Also, I hope that they don't show Taylor Swift a bunch in the stands like they did last year, no offense to her of course. I just feel like that they were hyping that up so much last year, which is why I affectionately call last years SB, the "Swiftie Bowl".

Since it hasn't been mentioned here yet, in a major (and welcome IMO) departure from historical precedent, Bills QB Josh Allen won his first ever league MVP even as Ravens QB Lamar Jackson won 1st Team All Pro honors.

The Jets have parted ways with 41-year-old QB Aaron Rodgers... will another team get him OR will he retire?

He's going to play and someone will sign him. No one has a legit shot of contending though. My guess is the Raiders along with Adams. But the Titans might be another option.

I don't know why any team would want him. He did absolutely nothing with the Jets and I am sure he is going to be asking for a lot of money. He really should call it quits. He has overstayed his welcome as is.

I don't disagree, but football owners don't always make the best of decisions. All it takes is one to think that they have a good team, but a bad quarterback situation.

I'm fine with Discount Double Check taking another legacy hit somewhere else before he's done.

Maybe this commercial should be remade with a Bills defensive player replacing BJ Raji.

Not looking good for KC so far.  Their offense can't get anything going and a pick six is about the worst thing that could happen.

That whole drive was excellent. Just three downs needed for a TD: sack, sack, pick six.

I'm wondering how many people under the age of 60 got the commercial reference to When Harry Met Sally?  I obviously did, there is at least one.

The Chiefs are getting smoked in all facets right now.  I don't think anyone was expecting 24-0.

24-0 Eagles after another pick... The Chiefs could come back in the second half, or are the Eagles playing a better game than the Chiefs?

The Eagles have 24 points. The Chiefs have 23 yards.

Luckily for the Chiefs, they have a half-hour Halftime to remember who they are and why they are chasing a threepete.

Dear EAGLES,

I am begging you -- PLEASE DO NOT celebrate way too early just yet!!  These KC Chiefs are in familiar territory down 24-0 in a postseason elimination game....2020 Divisional Game vs Texans.  They pulled it off before; in fact they are undefeated in the Mahomes-Kelsey era when down 24-0 in the postseason.  They have scored 21 in a single quarter to erase that deficit.  Having suffered through a 24-0 epic collapse as a Texans fan, I have a feeling this game is still far from over.
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

It's pretty much over after that touchdown bomb.

It's now 34-0! The Eagles got this Super Bowl win in the bag...
