Two moving trucks just pulled up out front. The house two doors up the block was vacant and I guess new people are moving in. But, as is typical for movers, they've blocked about five driveways, including mine and including the guy next door's where there's a car parked in the driveway. I get it that with the big truck, it's impossible not to block other driveways. But I find it mildly annoying that moving men think they don't have to ring the doorbell to ask if you will need your car so that you can move it before they start unloading, because if you come out and tell them to move the truck so you can get your car out, they get all huffy and act like it's a big imposition when it's their own damn fault. (In my case this is a mild annoyance because we have two other cars parked around the corner and I can drive one of those if I decide to go anywhere, but the guy next door's other car is in his garage, so he's completely blocked in.) If I needed to get the car out and they got huffy about it, my reaction would be simple—move the truck now or I call the police.

Similarly, I'm irritated when EMTs do the same thing. Now, first, I know you're already thinking they are saving lives. Which yeah they are responding to an emergency, so there could be a bit of an urgency.

In our case, our MIL needed ambulance services numerous times the past few years. The ambulance would stop in front of the neighbor's driveway every time. If the ambulance pulled up 8 more feet, that would keep their driveway in the clear, and wouldn't affect the safety or treatment of who they're responding to.

Lawn mowing guys often do the same thing, blocking one person's driveway with their trailer while they mow someone else's lawn.

That would be very frustrating. Though I wonder how much longer it is until we start seeing those little robots mowing people's yards. I've been seeing more and more of those in Los Angeles and the Oklahoma state Just announced they're gonna be using them to mow the state Grounds. I wonder if anyone here has one and what they think of them.

Those robots exist but they aren't actually AI controlled. They're remotely piloted, similar to the robotic food delivery systems in a few cities.

The automated lawn mowers aren't fictional. I assume you're familiar with the Roomba vacuum? Similar types of devices exist for mowing the lawn. Here's a CNet article. I've never used one—I live in a townhouse and the lawn is simply too small to justify buying one of those—so I have no comments to add, but a Google search for "robot lawn mower" turned up a lot of devices.

I don't have one but I saw one in operation about nine years ago, mowing a vast lawn in front of a former great house in Wales.  It seemed to be working fine.  There were signs up saying that while the robot would usually not attempt to mow persons or pets, it would be better if we didn't push our luck.

So the movers are still out there. Some idiot just parked his pickup illegally on the yellow curb across from the moving trucks. The street is completely blocked. Nobody can get through in either direction. But at least they're all to one side of my driveway and I can get out if I want.

Would you also say it fictional that while I've been without a car for the last few weeks I've been taking a car called WayMo that completely drives itself everywhere. I have also FaceTime a lot of people when I've been inside of it showing them how the car drives itself. Usually they're like fuck that shit I would never get in one. But I would tell you that Car actually drives better than the majority of people on the road.

Pardon me if your comment was facetious, but if you're being serious, you are living under a rock. Artificial intelligence is advancing at an insane rate and this type of stuff is gonna be common place.

They already have these little food delivery robots that drive on the sidewalk. I've had deliver me food several times. I believe they're already testing out automated systems at Jack-in-the-Box restaurants here in Los Angeles along with some clerk, free convenience stores, though I have yet to see one of those.

This is the future like it or not.

On a related note, I checked my phone calendar yesterday and I have a reminder set for January 19, 2026, 36 months after someone tweeted that in 36 months, every job will be replaced by AI. If the platform hasn't bitten the dust by then, I'll remind them of their failure at predicting the future.

Yeah, there's a lot of different views on the matter for sure. I work in music production and there's a lot of DAWs that are using plug-ins which use AI to do what humans would do. Some of it's kind of concerning. I don't know whether or not to start screaming that the sky is falling. But like I said it is concerning.

But regarding things like driving, food delivery, buses and trains, mowing lawns, shit, like that is becoming fully automated. And now it's starting to get into fast food too. A lot of jobs that humans do in fast food kitchens are becoming automated. This isn't something that is coming. It's already here. They also have automated drone deliveries that are being tested out in Dallas.

Personally, I think it's cool as shit and I love Waymo. I love being able to get into the car and ride around sometimes and listen to music not have to worry about driving. I don't have to worry about weird Uber drivers like myself.

So I'm not complaining. I don't know about January 2026. But if you and me are still on this forum by 2030 I'd be willing to bet you 100 bucks a lot of the stuff I mentioned and then some will be a hell of a lot more common place to say the least.

Now if we're talking about K12 and his 150MPH driverless cars that's another story I have no comment on.

I haven't tried those, but the Waymo cars look better. Still they look a little geeky with all the extra apparati all over the car. I'll be in Vegas soon and I'm sure I'll try the driverless Las Vegas shuttles.

Last time I was in Vegas, I took one of the Tesla tunnels. To say I was underwhelmed by that is an understatement. First off I thought it was fully autonomous. Secondly, talk about claustrophobia and I'm not usually too claustrophobic. But I couldn't stop thinking about what would happen if there was a fire.

Then, when we got to one of the exit tubes, it took longer to get out while we were waiting in the queue then it did the travel time through the tunnel. I don't understand why they don't just build a fucking subway train. Unless you're gonna build a multi lane underground freeway what is the point of having a single lane tunnel exclusively for Tesla's? I mean, that has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. I suppose one day it can be repurposed.

The only part of it that really concerns me is the digital art. Given that I'm a wannabe actor and a music producer in LA and I'm still a nobody at that, it gives me a lot of cause for concern to see just how easily AI could take over my career one day. But I guess we'll see.

I just read DoorDash is partnering with Coco to greatly expand their robotic deliveries around Los Angeles and Chicago. If you don't know what those are, they're basically little mobile giant sized remote control cars that go up to restaurants, food is placed inside of them, and then they deliver the food driving on sidewalks to peoples houses or apartments. They generally have about a 1 to 2 mile radius.

I could be wrong, but the way I understand it they are fully autonomous until they come across an obstacle that needs human intervention, which somebody then takes over. I see them all the time and I have helped a few of them that have either gotten stuck or they've been knocked over presumably by a person. When you help them the eyes in front of it blink and there's a message on the screen that says thank you.

Yeah, do not get me started on genAI. There's nothing worse than new art appearing of a little known fandom only for it to be AI generated.
