I'd have pegged you for one of the anti-Wal-Mart crowd.

I could see Scott being more anti-Target.

I generally avoid it. However, they have a delicious cherry-limeade Sprite, which WinCo doesn't carry. Also, my wife is really bad about putting anything on the WinCo list—I'll usually start one a few days before and add to it when I think of something we're out of, whereas she just waits until five minutes before work on the day I go and tries to write down everything she's run out of the past week before she ends up being late to work, meaning she usually forgets five or six things—so it's easier to just have her do a Walmart pickup order once a month or so, so she can actually remember what she needs from the store.

I'm not really happy about it but it's a solution that works.

My wife was going to head up to the Lewis Creek Trail with her friends this morning around Oakhurst.  At the last minute she requested that I drive and promised me lunch.  We got to the trailhead around 8 AM before any of the crowds and had an early lunch in Coarsegold.  I did have to detour off CA 41 via Madera County Road 211 and Friant Road due to holiday traffic.  Fortunately, Road 211 is a fun mountain drive.

Quote from: ZLoth on July 02, 2025, 07:58:24 PMA project that I will be doing this weekend is upgrading the hardware of my TrueNAS server to a faster processor which means new motherboard, new memory (DDR5 ECC from DDR4 ECC), and a new CPU fan. I will also start posting on job sites.

Because of an error on my part, the new ATX motherboard does not fit the old Fractal Design Node 804 which uses a mATX motherboard. A new case with internal 3½" drive bays had to be ordered and should arrive Tuesday. A new power supply was also ordered, and since the price difference between the 750W and 850W power supply was $4 (now $10), I ordered a 850W power supply. This will allow me to run a memory test for several days prior to transferring the drives over from my old TrueNAS box.

Ended up not going anywhere. The wife wanted the garage cleaned out.

Hey I was in Dubuque Saturday. Seriously underated place.

GreenLanternCorps

My wife and I always take vacation the week of Independence Day.  This year we were down at Oak Island, North Carolina.  We stopped at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park on the way down. While there, my boys and I went to the USS North Carolina (BB-55) and Moore's Creek National Battlefield.

Minneapolis -> Madison on Wednesday 7/2, Madison -> northern WI on Friday 7/4, northern WI -> Minneapolis on Sunday 7/6. All quite pleasant drives, no traffic to speak of as the first and third legs were in the evening and the second was in the morning.

Hey I was in Dubuque Saturday. Seriously underated place.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Moline trip for the John Deere Classic over the weekend.  I've done it before and it's on the list for future repeat visits.  I'm sorry I didn't connect with you there.

As those river towns go, though, I kind of doubt Moline is commonly listed among the "underrated" ones.  The golf course where the tournament is played is really nice, and it's a great place to get to at 7:30 or 8 a.m. and stay until play concludes, and then you go find a place for dinner.  On Saturday they moved up the golf schedule so play concluded at 3 p.m., to avoid forecasted thunderstorms later in the afternoon (which did happen after the golf was done), and I was left with some extra time that I couldn't really find a way to fill.

Although Moline is one of the cheaper out-of-town PGA Tour trips I take, I bet it has a nice economic impact on that Quad Cities area that probably doesn't have too many other comparable events.  Oh, and that's a nice bridge over the Mississippi on I-74.

I drive across it every day!

Anyway, Moline isn't underrated. It is pretty much what it is. The QC is nice but I don't think there is much for visitors to do here - not exactly a tourist destination.

Glad we got that straightened out. ;)

Was very quiet Saturday, almost a ghost town in certain sections of downtown

We were down in the Millwork District and it was fairly decent.

Spent the long weekend in the Finger Lakes - stayed along the east shore of Seneca Lake, did some waterfall hikes at Taughannock Falls & Watkins Glen State Parks, and visited several of the breweries & wineries clustered along NY 414. Didn't go to the official fireworks show in Watkins Glen, but it worked out as we saw tons of fireworks being launched over the lake from where we were staying.

I was reminded during the drive how much I enjoy the stretch of US 15 between Williamsport & Corning - great scenery and not too busy despite the added holiday traffic. I was also reminded how much I can't wait for the CSVT to be fully completed - the slog thru Hummels Wharf & Shamokin Dam was extra busy and had backups approaching the stretch from either side.
