Any info on whether the old route will remain a state highway? Utah doesn't seem to do business loops on state routes, but does have a few anomalous route number duplications in some places.

No, the plan is to relocate 17 to the bypass and transfer the old alignment to the city.

Yep, I recall reading an article stating that the bypass will come under state jurisdiction (SR-17) with the old route going to the city.

On a side note, I wish UDOT would work something out for those anomalous duplicate route branches, as the mileposts can get really janky on some of those. I'm not one to recommend throwing around a pile of route numbers like New Mexico, but it might be the best option for those situations. Either that, or just make ALT/SPUR/LOOP banners official.

Looks like UDOT is getting US 6 some improvements east of Spanish Fork.

EDIT- Looks like Legacy Parkway/Highway (SR 67) will be getting a 3rd lane each direction, starting next year, in preparation for the I-15 rebuild between SLC and Farmington.

US 89

The thing I'm most excited about is a new interchange on US 6 at the US 89 junction near Thistle. That left turn from 89 is brutal and just from listening to news I feel like there are some bad crashes (including some fatal) rather frequently at that intersection, which is not one bit surprising.

I wish 6 were four lanes through the whole canyon and all the way down to 70, but there are some really tight stretches in the mountains that would severely complicate matters. There's no reason it shouldn't be four lanes divided southeast of Price, though.

I can't remember how many passing zones there are south of Price as is on US 6.  Only issue I've had on that stretch is getting stuck behind a truck.

(For US 189)  Nighttime one-way traffic to begin near Deer Creek Reservoir tonight

QuoteThe Utah Department of Transportation is beginning a multiyear construction project tonight on U.S. Highway 189 near Deer Creek Reservoir.

This is the last stretch of US-189 in this area with only one lane each way. When work is finished, the entire highway in this area will have two lanes in each direction, making it safer and easier for everyone who drives it.

In addition to widening the road, UDOT will add a new traffic signal at the intersection of US-189 and State Route 113.
