Not according to House Hunters. They're always paying more for a smaller house in the city because it's close to shops, restaurants and bars.

whether cities or suburbs are better really depends on your life stage and your lifestyle choices.

Not so much the former.
I mean young people generally like to party more which is better in cities. I guess that's also kinda lifestyle choices as well.

There are older people that moved from 'burbs to cities that like being close to food and services...myself included. ;D

Quote from: thspfc on October 15, 2025, 11:33:30 AMIn my head: if a trip takes between 5 and 10 minutes, it takes exactly 10 minutes. If it takes between 10 and 15 minutes, it takes exactly 15 minutes. If it takes between 15 and 30 minutes, it takes exactly 30 minutes.

When I started my current job it took me at least a month to break the internalization that the morning commute was 30 minutes. In reality it was between 21 and 24 minutes every day barring bad weather.

I have the opposite problem. Perhaps due to being spoiled by lack of traffic in upstate NY (and amplified by my last-minute nature), I tend to always round down, so trips that could actually be 15-30 minutes are usually 10-25 in my mind.

Example: From here in the northeast corner of the metro, I would broad-brush a trip to ROC airport as "20 minutes". Google Maps currently estimates 27 minutes, but I know from experience that I could get there in 22-23 outside of rush hour.

Street traffic is worse in cities than it is in suburbs.

One that I can think of is getting between two destinations on Ridge Rd in Webster, NY.

Traffic on Ridge Rd is so ridiculous that in many cases it's faster to go up to the NY 104 freeway/service road and back down, especially during peak travel/shopping periods. However, those not using GPS and just doing things the way they've always done them are prone to wasting time stuck in traffic on Ridge Rd.

I struggle with two things regarding the Soul:

-  All three generations are hard to tell apart from the exterior.
-  I don't get how it is classified as a CUV given the ground clearance is car-like.  They strike me more as a hatchback akin to the PT Cruiser and HHR.  The Soul never had an AWD option also.

I recall the PT and HHR were both classified as small trucks by the ERA since they had a certain volume / dimensions of required rear cargo capacity and a solid rear axle.

The Soul always appears like it should be the next iteration of the CR-X mashed with a Scion xB but forgot the assignment on the way home. They literally never stay in their damn lane when I get them as rentals, the most annoying thing a vehicle can do.

I truly miss the days when you could tell what the make and model of a car was just by its own distinct design. Now all crossovers look the same to me, with the only difference being what badge they wear.

Perhaps 24 years old. rather?  Cars built after 2001 are specifically designed to imbibe ETOH.

I'm not sure "those days" ever existed. I think it's more when you grew up. I couldn't tell any cars from the 1950s apart, because they all look the same to me, with those tailfins and what not. But I can easily tell apart any car from the 80s and 90s and 00s. But yes, some of the newer models look the same to me. (And oddly enough, the 80s is usually seen as the era when rebadging was at its worst, to the point GM was basically using identical engines in all their makes, which was one of the many issues that led to their decline).

Put a 1927 Model T, a 1928 Model A, and the 1932 Ford in front of me, I would almost certainly not get them right.
