Quote from: freebrickproductions on October 18, 2025, 09:53:03 PMThe internet at my house went out last night, and it won't be fixed for a few days. Apparently it's because the equipment we use is just simply too obsolete now, and Google never clearly told us that we needed to upgrade it to continue having internet access. Google is sending us new equipment though, but it'll still take 1-3 business days for it to arrive...

Doesn't sound minor.

Well, for my sister and I at least, we're able to use our phone's mobile hotspots (and I'm able to use my laptop) in the meantime, even if it's a bit awkward compared to normal.

Plus, last I checked, there's no "Major things that bother you" thread.
I've always thought there should be one.

Why?
Specifically, Majors

Still no "why" in that response.  Am I not getting some sort of political reference or is this an actual critique on working/dealing with officers versus regular enlisted?

It's a "major" thing. Pun intended.

Ah, gotcha.

The fact that huge tent cities exist in major (pun intended) US cities full of homeless people.

The fact that we allow people to become homeless at all, then punish them for their misfortune.
It's all fun & games until someone summons Cthulhu and brings about the end of the world.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

Not to be too profound, but if something checks all three of...

  • Major
  • Bothersome
  • Not road-related

... then this is probably not the best place to be discussing it, even if it somehow fits within the forum guidelines.

TL;DR: This thread is short-lived.

I was going to say something, but I decided not to share, lest I become a "major thing that bothers you" to others.

If I had opined "the previous Biden administration," that would be a guaranteed thread lock.
Not saying the modding is bias, but the only real active mod has made his political views quite clear. All the other mods basically don't exist here anymore- I haven't seen them around in ages. Typically this problem was avoided by locking everything political in general but it seems like more is sliding through. Obviously nobody is unbiased so I'm not blaming anyone for anything, just looking for a possible explanation.

For what it's worth, I am pretty sure the number of post reports submitted by liberals (and progressives and socialists) that I choose not to act on is higher than the number of those submitted by conservatives which I choose not to act on.

Typically, the point at which I consider something "political" is when people are calling out individual politicians or specific political parties. So, yeah. I just noticed a post of that nature slipped by me upthread, so I'm going to take care of that.

That could be that conservatives are generally more "live and let live" about posts that don't agree with their personal views and the fact that there are less conservatives overall on the site. For example of the former, there are a couple posts on the site that I (a conservative) could choose to get offended about and report because they do kind of cross a line, but I think that it's ultimately not a big deal to me if someone says something questionable that I don't agree with.

Last post about the subject of Amtrak politics, but from the guidelines of the mass transit board:

QuoteOf course, rational, well-supported debates on this subject are all right in the appropriate place. Knee-jerk mode shaming is not; there are other forums you can exercise that behavior on. I think you all should get the idea. Use common sense and we shouldn't have any problems.

So why does SP Cook get unrestricted access to the board when all he does is complain about Amtrak and not engage with any of the counter arguments people bring up? I could say the same thing about kalvado concern trolling about the national debt and ignoring the subsequent arguments that the military budget is far more bloated. I know that demanding engagement is against the rules, but what exactly did you have in mind when you wrote this?
