Quote from: Rothman on March 05, 2026, 11:41:28 AMI gave up on Avis/Budget a couple of years ago.  Got sick of being nickeled and dimed (e.g., didn't matter if I filled up right outside the airport, they'd find I was a tenth down and charge me for gas...).

Never had an issue with them thankfully. Hertz it seems never has the class of car I booked and always wants to push electric cars on me. Charging them as a rental is way too much of a PITA.

I've had the opposite experience.  Switched to Hertz and haven't looked back.  It got to the point with Avis/Budget where I had to give them a call after every rental about some charge they added to the bill (not only fuel).  Their cheaper rates just weren't worth it for the inevitable hassles, no matter the location.

I just heard Paris D. Davis say on the radio that, when it comes to the racist stuff coming out of D.C. these days, we need to remember that old line from the Bible:  "This too shall pass."

Um, that's not from the Bible, Mr. Davis.  The origin of the phrase, in fact, is neither Christianity nor Judaism, but rather Persian Sufism.

Nope.  This came from a list I made a couple of years ago, wrote down on a slip of paper, and stuffed in my wallet between a bunch of random business cards.  I just found it in there and suffered through plugging it into the forum's table format.

I understand why companies use AI to make graphics like this ($$$), but it's really sad when they don't even bother to slap the actual logo over slop like that. Also, the "generic AI anime" style, complete with a Channel Islands megacity that I guess exists now, is an odd choice.

If they were fed nuts early and regularly, their immune systems would know what they are.  Same with people.

Studies have also shown that children who are raised around pets tend to develop fewer allergies.  Maybe the animals should have been raised near animals.

The German word Quelle throws me:
* doesn't look German (but it is)
* looks French (no, it is not)
* ok, maybe it's a Latin loanword? (nope)

I was reading an article about how much farting is normal, and the bit I quoted below stood out to me.  Are scientists reading this forum?

Quote from: HuffPost"People who chew a lot of gum, drink carbonated drinks or eat too quickly may swallow more air, for example, which can cause flatulence," she said. "Other people have gut bacteria that produce more gas. Diet, how fast you digest, and medications can also change how much gas you make and pass."

I've run twice today for 15 over miles.  Given I stopped and started exercise back up I had to hydration prep for two runs.  Right now I'm at 256 ounces of water consumed for the day.  I'll easily be over 300 ounces by the end of the day since I'll be doing camera work on a ladder tonight.

I didn't even consume 200 ounces of water on Sunday during my hike on Hites Cove Road.  I probably would have given the last two miles had an approximately 2,000 foot elevation ascent.   I gave most of my spare water to one of the people hiking with me since he had run out and was showing symptoms of heat exhaustion.

I just found out that former news anchor Ernie Anastos died from a four-day old video on David Letterman's YouTube channel;

Everyone likes reality TV apparently, and singing contests are really popular. How about a songwriting show?

Start with 12 or 20 contestants. The first contest: write a 3-minute pop song. Easy peasy. Challenge: the topic cannot be related to personal attraction or love.

Half the contestants do not advance.

Round 2: you cannot use the I - V - vi - IV chord progression (the one from "Don't Stop Believing")

Round 3: must use odd meter

Round 4: harsh vocals

Round 5: microtonal

Yeah, this show wouldn't make it
