I took some photos on the drive into Kingstown, St. Vincent from the east. The first photo shows us driving across the old SVD runway which no longer serves aircraft:









Also, this is the steep and narrow road on Bequia to our accommodation (a road which isn't on Google Maps, but is on OpenStreetMap)

I got some more photos of the drive from Blue Lagoon Hotel at the south end of Saint Vincent to the current SVD Airport (Argyle International). I'm already itching to head back to the Caribbean, we'll see what potential opportunities are in my brother's flight schedule for April!

The salvaged approach to the 1908-era Red River Bridge which once carried UT 64 (River Road) over the Virgin River in St. George.  This bridge was destroyed by flooding in 1988, and the wreckage was rediscovered in 2005:

Kansas ranks fourth in the nation for total road miles, and about 70% of those miles are unpaved.  If you take the total number of Interstate miles nationwide, and double that number, then that's still less than the number of unpaved road miles just within the state of Kansas.

It wasn't just around Wichita, by the way.  He drove way out to Colorado and stuff.

Anyway, as for Kansas as a whole, this is one of my favorite examples.  The first 18 miles of that route are unpaved.

Up by Emporia, there's an annual 200-mile cycling race that follows unpaved roads exclusively.  (I see they've now added a 350-mile race as well, for the truly insane.)  Here was last year's route:
