Apparently we are getting the gritty and grounded Air Bud movie that none of us realized we wanted.
As the owner of a golden retriever who made it to the ripe age of 17, a 29-year-old golden wouldn't be able to shoot very many hoops. But hey, Disney magic could happen.

For context I'm aware that Air Buddies and Santa Paws movies are in the same canon as the Air Bud films.  They actually had the Air Buddies go into space in full astronaut uniform at one point.  I don't think that I'm exactly off base with thinking the original Air Bud was functionally immortal in-universe or the canon could be manipulated to keep him alive.  Apparently they are pumping the brakes on that and bringing back the grounded realism of a basketball playing dog.

Quote from: kphoger on April 09, 2026, 04:08:27 PMI answer the main phone at work every so often.  (It rings my co-worker's desk first, but I'm next in line.)  So many of the people calling are salesmen from companies that we have no interest in talking to, but of course their first job is to just get me to transfer them to somebody.  So they'll say things like "Could I speak with the person in charge of ____".  If I ask them for more details, then of course they try to be as vague as possible, so I'll just transfer them to somebody.  But I've found the magic question to ask:

Do we already do business with you?

They won't flat-out lie and say yes.  No answer they give will get around the fact that the answer is no.  And at that point, I know they're just fishing for business.  And I also know nobody in here wants to talk to them.  So, bye-bye, "not interested", click.

Recent call from 'Anonymous':

—  Do we already do business with you?
—  Yes.  They've got me reaching out to past customers.

Well, which is it, lady?  We do business with you, or we are a past customer?

Since I don't want to derail the thread that's truly back on topic again, I'm putting it here:

Quote from: kphoger on April 15, 2026, 08:50:03 PMMay I just take a moment to congratulate everyone who has helped to take this bonfire of an off-topic drift within an off-topic thread and turn it into something roadgeeky.

This isn't the first thread that turned into something about dating and then went back on topic. See "Dating a Bridge" here (although what do you expect when a thread has that title)

I was trying to provide a catch all term.  But if you have to ask I was mostly thinking of Vietnamese bridges.

They do tend to look younger, which I find especially attractive.  I prefer bridges that are about 24 to 29 years younger than I am, so the youthful appearance of the Vietnamese ones is a real turn-on for me.

I contemplated having child bridges with them.  The Italian Bar Bridge was around for 95 years before it was replaced.  I considered if I could be an elderly bridge father.

I picked up a course of antibiotics at the drugstore yesterday, and I was reading through the attached paperwork a lot more closely than anybody ever does.  It's 14 capsules of 100 mg each and, at the bottom of the sheet, it said "20 DRAM".  That intrigued me, because I knew there was no way 20 ʒ could equal either 100 mg or 1400 mg.  So I did the conversion and found that 20 ʒ actually equals 35.4369 g.  Not even close!  I was really scratching my head for a while, but I finally figured it out.  It turns out that pill bottles are still sized by the dram.  That little note at the bottom of the sheet was just telling the pharmacist which size of pill bottle to use.  Learn something new every day!

Neat! The only other time I've saw a sizing by the dram is with Lorann Oils Flavorings, which we use to make hard rock candy during Christmas time.

Stranger Things ripped off so much from the movie Super 8.  It is super obvious now that I'm watching the movie again.

If you ever want to make someone from Key West angry just tell them that FDOT should four-lane US 1 through entire chain of islands.  I used to irritate the "Fresh Water Conch" HR assistant on the base with that kind of talk much to my great amusement.

It definitely would have come in handy today on the stretch between Florida City and Key Largo. I didn't move an inch for 35 minutes due to an accident.

That would be the Eighteen Mile Stretch.  It either is completely stopped or is a line of cars going 25-30 MPH over the speed limit.  I used to take Card Sound Road and pay the toll quite often to avoid all the traffic issues.

Nope. Central Asia and trying not to fly through the Middle East. I'll probably resolve to never do that again after this trip though.
