Gordie Howe bridge to open by end of July after US, Canada reach deal, report says

Quote
QuoteThe Gordie Howe International Bridge will open by the end of July after the U.S. and Canada resolved issues that led the Trump administration to not allow the span to launch earlier, according to a report published Friday.

The Associated Press cited two people directly involved in the negotiations who requested anonymity. Mike Rogers, a Republican running for U.S. Senate, told WJR-AM that a deal will be announced in the next few days. He said he spoke with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, a negotiator, on Thursday.

"That bridge is gonna get open," Rogers said. "But the financial deal that they secured for us — we went from getting no (toll) revenue, I believe it'll be as much as half the revenue, joint determination what the tolls are. Remember, the Canadians were going to have 100% control of what they tolls were on the board. That's gonna change."

Also, he said, Canada will guarantee that Chinese cars are not "pouring" over the span connecting Detroit and Windsor. This year, Canada authorized the import of a limited number of Chinese-made electric vehicles.

The Windsor–Detroit Bridge Authority declined to comment.

In a statement, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said the new bridge "has always been a great deal for our state" and called it a testament to the enduring partnership between Michigan and Canada.

If accurate this map renders the Gordie Howe a bridge to nowhere.  :spin: Terrible Maps

Anybody wanna take bets on how much of that toll revenue that "we" are getting is going to go directly to the Moroun family?

Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%

Can they some of the those cheap Chinese EV cars to the Sedans thread?

The Ghostbuster

July 27th? It certainly took them long enough.

The comment about Chinese EVs being a sticking point in the agreement is stupid because the US can easily intercept those at customs without demanding more from Canada. I think they realized this was becoming a weight on them in a critical battleground for this year's elections.
