Dang I never thought of this one that  wildfire smoke can travel thousands of miles from the  point of origin for wildfires as in the case of parts of Canada.

Not sure if it's in the same league, but Canada's wildfire smoke has reached New England, enough to block out the sun yesterday and affect air quality today.

The smoke is forecast to reach the metro Detroit area tonight and all day tomorrow.

But surely it's not worth it.  I'm not sure why it matters in the first place, but in any case, surely it can't be worth being stuck in a single building eating lab-grown food with no scenery to speak of.  The stuff that makes life worth living (aside from family and friends) is being able to head out, enjoy the blue sky, mountains, lakes, and rivers, do activities like swimming, boating, and roadtrips, and eat good food!  On Mars, you wouldn't even have good internet access - far too much latency for a high-speed connection.  They can't even send commands to the Mars rovers in real time.  And good luck fixing that without re-writing the laws of physics.

Well because fires are a natural part of the earth cycle, and we need to become an inner planetary species. What's the point in arguing against going to Mars? Is it just a lot of this border or a bunch of liberals and don't like Elon Musk? I've often wondered why we don't let more of these fires just burn out. Instead, we could consistently try to put them out and then we get these mega fires and then wonder what the heck's going on. And no, I'm not a climate change denier either. But if it up to me, I would say let the forest burn down. A new one will grow.

The sunlight streaming across our floors and walls at 7:20 this morning had a distinctly reddish tinge to it, more like a sunset color than an early-morning color (recognizing sunrise is before 6:00 at this time of year). But when I look out the back window, I see a blue sky. Not as blue as usual, but nothing too terrible. Tomorrow is the day we're supposed to get the thick stuff, according to last night's weather forecast on TV.

New York looked borderline apocalyptic on the news last night, but then they also had an intense thunderstorm just before 5:30 (a colleague said it was raining so hard he decided to work late).

Yes, the AQI in Fresno was up to 400 one morning of that red sky event in San Francisco.  It was back in 2020 and I remember going out for a run in it before sunrise.  All that smoke actually blunted the summer heat.

Yes Northern California had fires like that in 2020 that resembled there was no sunlight but a red glow. But it was because of fires within the state that created that effects.

Here the wildfires in Canada created effects that make places like Toronto, New York, Detroit, Boston, Philadelphia look like the wildfires is in their neighborhoods even thoughits thousands of miles away. Yes as in how Los Angeles and Inland Empire looks like when a major fire hits one of their neighborhood.

I'm not saying I'm against interplanetary colonization necessarily (although I do question whether humanity is mature enough for it at this time), I just don't see the attraction of the living arrangements from a personal perspective.  Nor do I like how many of the rich and powerful seem to be using the idea that they'll just go to space or to a bunker as an excuse to ruin the planet and let society decay away.  I get that they like money (imagine Frito saying he likes money in Idiocracy), but I would think quality of life would matter more than how much money you have.  What's the point of having a ton of money if you're stuck in a bunker or space colony habitat with no view and limited food/recreational options?

I pretty much agree I mean personally I don't wanna leave the Earth. That would really suck if you got to Mars and then realized you didn't wanna be there. But I do think it's important sorry for the vulgarity, but to spread our seed so to speak.

I also find it a little weird and kind of alarming that all of a sudden these rich people are all the sudden so invested in getting out of earth. It almost reminds me of that one movie with Matt Damon, where they have that orbital spaceship. I forgot what it's called but it's almost like global warming. It's real and we're gonna die in the rich people know it and they're trying to escape. I know that's a tinfoil hat, conspiracy theory lol kind of
