New CPSC regulations could spell the end of off-brand faucets in the US

New CPSC regulations on lead content for faucets imported into the US could spell doom and gloom for these "alphabet soup" off-brand faucets sold on Amazon, Temu, and AliExpress, since it would cost millions for these off-brands to redesign their products to meet compliance, thus leading them to increase their prices.

While the big three manufacturers (Moen, Delta, and Kohler) will benefit from this, I wonder if the biggest beneficiaries will be B-tier brands such as American Standard, Pfister, or Kraus. Store brands such as Glacier Bay, Allen+Roth, and AmazonBasics might also benefit for those who are extremely price conscious.

Basically, we are returning to the 1980s when we didn't have that flood of off-brands. Nobody balked at the prices from the major manufacturers back then for being "too expensive", even though if you adjust 1980s prices to today's dollars, the average 1980s prices were likely actually higher than they are today.

Other than lead content (which I should hope isn't a concern I have to worry about) is there really enough of a difference between faucet brands that I should be worried about this? As far as I know they're meant to be a somewhat-attractive looking pipe that water comes out of. If I ever needed to replace one (what makes you even have to replace a faucet? I've never needed to) I would just look at which ones Lowe's has and pick whichever one looked nice enough and wasn't too expensive.

If a valve, seal, or cartridge cracks, then a faucet will start leaking or maybe not even shut off all the way at all.  Sometimes it's worth it to try and fix by taking it apart and replacing the bad part, but sometimes you might as well just buy a whole new faucet.

Huh. Okay. Well, if that ends up happening I'll know what caused it now.

Well, I guess technically I did replace a faucet once. Our sprayer-head faucet in the house in Oklahoma would from time to time only trickle water out. I was able to get it to work better by soaking it in CLR overnight, and that seemed to help for a month or two, but then it'd start acting up again. I'm not really sure what was wrong with it, because Norman didn't really have hard water, so I don't know if the CLR was doing anything or not. Anyway, that was all going on when Renee lost her job and we decided to go ahead and move to Nevada. When I left the house for the last time that was the same faucet. But the buyers noticed it when they were checking things, so we just had the realtor have someone replace it, and they took the money to do so out of the sale price.
