Parras, Coahuila.  It's not in the mountains, but its elevation is approximately the same as Denver.  Today is in the 90s there, though.

The first week of August is normally our highest time of the year by temperature average; and then the middle of next month our moisture levels typically at our highest of the year with the peak of tropical season.

Parts east of US-77/I-69E corridor are higher than normal -- with the coastal areas several degrees above average; but west of that corridor are mostly right around average.

On my long summer road trip I drove from Evanston, Wyoming to Fort Morgan, Colorado ("The Oasis on the Plains") today.  The temperature was between 60°F and 75°F the entire way, a beautiful day for driving except for maybe a bit of smoky haze that was never that bad.

The scenic detour off I-80 was Wyoming 130 through Saratoga and over the Snowy Range to Laramie and it was around 60°F at the high point of that.  Beautiful area up there, certainly worth some future exploration when I have time.

Fort Morgan is a cheap enough place for a night.  I really should have gone for Limon though...

I'm under the eaves of the clubhouse at the golf tournament in Elkhorn, Nebraska (Omaha suburb), hanging out with a lot of other fans as we wait out a thunderstorm with wind and heavy rain.

They blew the horn to get everybody off the course about 10 minutes before the nasty stuff hit.

Edit:  I waited 3 hours at the course, but radar continued to be discouraging so I have repaired to a local pub for adult beverages.  It takes quite a bit more rain to stop golf compared to baseball, but lightning anywhere near the course shuts the golf down immediately.

Well, the storms are no longer in the forecast for this week-end, the lower temps have been pushed back a day or two, and even then not as low as they had predicted earlier.  That's actually good for me, because we have a birthday pool party to go to on Saturday.

It's been hot and sunny every day in Madrid, Spain since we arrived on Monday. The skies have been clear of clouds, with highs at least 35C (95F). While I'm not loving the intense heat, it did make for a great eclipse forecast, and our viewing location in Valladolid was a success! We got 1 minute and 27 seconds of totality, which felt brief, but still worth the effort of getting here.

The phone camera isn't the best at capturing it, but this was our view:

At sunrise this morning, it was 84°F.  It's 87°F now at 8:45am.  They predict it will get up to 107°F this afternoon, which will make it the sixth day in a row with a temp of 99°F or higher.  Friday and Saturday are also expected to get above 100°F.  Then, if they're right, the wind will finally shift to come from the north, and high temps will get below 95°F—but only for two days before they jump up to triple digits again.
