Lowest-numbered route you haven't been on

After a pair of road trips (one to SE Virginia, one to Rochester NY), I have now joined the 400 club!

The lowest numbered route I haven't been on has increased from 379 to 411.

What's next?  US 411 is the obvious target.  I was surprised to notice that despite numerous trips to the area - including several vacations in the Smoky Mountains - that I had never driven on US 411.  (I've been on unsigned GA 411, but I don't count unsigned routes).  I also need 412, but PA 412 is near Allentown PA and shouldn't be too hard to get.

Finally got a Route 48 on my clinching trip in Northwest Missouri this past weekend. My next number would have been 92, but I got MO-92 this weekend also, so that takes my number all the way to 105.

Just got back from an eight-day trip on which I was able to cross off my four lowest-untraveled numbers (got 105, 107 and 108 in West Virginia, and 113 in Georgia). My number is now up to 122.

After being stuck for a year, I finally got part of TX Spur 122 in San Antonio today, so my next number is 128. The best option for that which fits in my normal traveling patterns looks like AR 128 near Hot Springs. FM 128 near Cooper, TX, is also a viable option for when I visit Tulsa again. After that, my next gaps are 132 and 136, which I have plans to get.

I remember talking about it being 57 but at some point sooner than later I would travel on Interstate 57 in Arkansas.

Scott5114, you have not been on Texas 121? It is overlapped on US-75 from the south side of McKinney to the south side of Melissa. It is also one of the main routes from DFW Airport to Fort Worth.

Nope, despite living in the next major metro to the north for decades, I've only visited the DFW area a half-dozen times or so. Didn't know anyone there and I'm not big on flying, so the only reason we visited was for concerts for acts that wouldn't come to Oklahoma City, or just passing through en route to elsewhere.

In the DFW area, I have mileage on I-20 east of I-635, I-30, I-35W, I-35E north of Spur 348, I-635, and Loop 12. That's it. The only bit of US-75 I have is between US-82 and TX-91.

In the DFW area, I have mileage on I-20 east of I-635, I-30, I-35W, I-35E north of Spur 348, I-635, and Loop 12. That's it. The only bit of US-75 I have is between US-82 and TX-91.

Similar here.  I've only ever done one trip to the metroplex where the city was the actual destination.  That was clear back in 2009, and it was for a wedding in the Plano area.  I drove through Dallas or Fort Worth on an annual basis for several years, on my way to and from Mexico, but I swore off it after 2014.  Since then, the only time I've driven through was on the way to and from Galveston—and only because there wasn't really a good way of avoiding it.

I actually do have mileage on TX-121, though, and it's part of the reason I swore off driving through the metroplex back in 2014, and why we now almost always cross the border at Del Rio instead of Laredo.

It was in 2014 that a front passenger-side wheel bearing broke on our friend's pickup truck on the way back.  It was July, in the Mexican desert, and the vehicle was suddenly completely undriveable.  We tried for a minute but, while following him, I could see the wheel wobbling back and forth underneath.  With the help of a couple of hitchhiking migrant farm workers headed back home to Saltillo, whom we had picked up on our way out of town, we set out to find a mechanic.  After asking around from one wide-spot-in-the-road village to another, we finally found one 15 miles away from where we broke down.  The mechanic had apparently had a tracheotomy and therefore could only make consonant sounds—no vowels, no vocalization.

So, between my friend and me, a hitchhiker whose country bumpkin Spanish we could barely understand at all, and a semi-mute mechanic, we figured out a plan.  We drove back to the truck, switched passengers around, took the two hitchhikers the remaining hour-plus to Saltillo, called our bank to make sure an international purchase wouldn't lock our debit card, stopped at AutoZone to buy a new bearing, went next door to the grocery store for sandwich supplies, went back to tell the mechanic we were ready, and then returned the rest of the way to the truck.  The mechanic didn't have a big enough breaker bar/pipe, but our friend had a bigger one.  He didn't have a big enough sledgehammer at one point, but our friend had a bigger one.  The only thing they didn't have between them was the right size of Torx bit but, just then, a roving mechanic patrol truck rolled up and supplied the use of his.

After the repair was done, we paid the mechanic the equivalent of fifty bucks, and a sandwich, and we were on our way five hours after breaking down.  This meant we got in to our hotel in San Marcos at about 1:00 am.  Because of the late arrival, we got a late start the next morning.  Then, in Fort Worth, an 18-wheeler had overturned and was completely blocking northbound I-35W.  We were near an exit, so we got off, turned around, and charted a different path through the city.  Half of our new route ended up being under construction, and we encountered another wreck with a traffic jam of its own.  By the time we finally got clear of Fort Worth, I was at my wits' end, ready to strangle kittens and babies, and determined to never drive through Dallas–Fort Worth ever again.  Since that time, I've only done so once.

But that detour we took around the overturned truck was I-820 to TX-183 to TX-121 to TX-114 back to I-35W again.

I knew you never got down this far very much. It just struck me as  unlikely that you had somehow missed a freeway that has over 50 miles catty-cornered across DFW (on either SRT and SH-121 proper). But seeing how little of US-75 you have traveled, it makes perfect sense.

Yep, since I lived right on I-35, that was a straight shot into DFW and thus the route I nearly always used. US-75 would have required a detour to the east, which wouldn't have made a whole lot of sense unless I was just doing it for clinching purposes. Had I had reason to visit more frequently, I probably would have gotten around to it eventually, but as it stands I never even got all the way through I-35E.

For what it's worth, I'm missing some pretty large chunks of US-75 in Oklahoma too. Just one of those roads that was never all that useful to me.
